Choosing your draft slot in a superflex start up

Postby Crouchy » Tue Mar 09, 2021 7:35 am

It is a 12 person full ppr TE Premium superflex start up and people get to choose their draft slot. It is a regular snake draft and rookie picks are included in the draft.

So position #1 is the best spot right? because you get Mahomes and then 24 and 25. Do we then just go down #2 is 2nd best and so on. Or would some people prefer to pick in the middle because there is a tier break somewhere (maybe Mahomes, Allen, CMC, Kyler, tierbreak?) or even later as you might be able to snag a QB on the way back in the second round?

Last year in that format my favorite spots were 1.01 (Mahomes) and 1.08-1.09 (Watson/Kittle). I suspect it would be similar this year, though not sure who my target would be at 1.08-1.09.

Always aim for the back end of your first tier. that way you get a guy in your top echelon, and you get the earliest possible pick on the turn around

If you can't get the 1.01, just go off how many QBs you personally have in the next tier and take the last spot in that tier. For me this year it would be pick 1.07. In no particular order:
(Mahomes)
Allen
Herbert
Murray
Lamar
Watson
Dak
....
Tier break

If you have Wilson, Burrow or Lawrence or whoever as part of the top tier then you'd want 1.08 and so on.

Good luck!

1.01 for me. Sure 12/13 might be attractive, but then it's not until 36/37 that you pick again. I'd much rather have Mahomes and 24/25.

Middle of the round isn't bad either as I think you still get a great QB and a pick from every tier without having to wait too long.

I always want the earliest possible pick, but I’m also willing to move up and down during the draft.

Earlier the better, as all the results driven data I’ve seen says.

1 is a bigger upgrade to 2, when compared to 13 vs 14, and so on.

That said, tiering things out and some planning/forethought can work out also. But I’d ever lean towards the earlier overall pick.

If you’re able to trade back and would want to trade back then you 100% want the earliest draft slot you can get. You could trade back from 1.01 to the 1.12 in one trade or a series of trades and possibly aquire maybe 2-3 1sts of value

Interesting replies so far. It is clear 1.01 is the best. I think we all knew this. But then there seems to be a split if it goes down from 2, 3, 4 etc or we find our QB tier drop in the middle and go there.

Yeah, easily the 1.01 for me, but I like to trade. And that is the easiest pick in the draft to move, somebody would want it. It jumpkicks trading and makes subsequent moves easier.
But how does everyone get to choose their draft spot? I seriously doubt you have 12 owners all wanting to pick from 12 different positions. My guess is that at least half if not all of the league would want to choose the 1.01

sports prediction competiton. Winner chooses their start up slot, second has next pick. Whoever was last gets whatever pick is left.
