SF - would you trade Dalton for Newton

Postby Wizard » Fri Oct 11, 2019 6:44 pm

I have Dalton, Winston and Mariota. I'd like to get someone I could count on for the future and the owner of Newton currently only has one playable QB so I was thinking about offering up Dalton. Would you trade Dalton for Newton knowing you'd only be able to field Winston and Mariota until Newton was healthy. Is Newton even a better fantasy QB than Dalton?

Note its not the team in my signature.
QB -Tom Brady, Nick Foles Deshaun Watson

RB - Kenyan Drake, Darrius Guise, Tevin Coleman, Leonard Fournett, Kareem Hunt, Justin Jackson, Jaylen Samuels, Carlos Hyde, Duke Johnson Jr., Jordan Wilkins, CJ Anderson, Chris Warren,

WR - Davante Adams , T.Y. Hilton, Courtland Sutton, Devin Funchess, Doug Baldwin, Michael Crabtree, Antonio Callaway, J’Mon Moore, Dylan Cantrell, Keith Kirkwood, James Richie

TE - Zach Ertz, Harris Demetrius, Hayden Hurst

Cam is a much better QB than Dalton. You will probably have to add a decent amount to trade up to Cam.

Dalton, Winston + Mariota....lol.... a trio of QB's that could be out of a job soon.

I'm not paying much for Dalton, I think his sell window (for a decent value) was last year. But even with questionable health and Kyle Allen winning...I'd see Cam having a starting job even if Carolina moved on.

I'd rather have Newton.

Amazingly, Newton's floor is probably lower at this point in that Dalton's career will likely be measurably longer. But, I don't think that Dalton will ever reliably be better than a QB3. He's the kind of player that you never want to actually start.

Newton's ceiling is elite. Even though it's unlikely that he ever gets back to that point, he could realistically be low-end QB1 or a high-end QB2 again. I'll gamble on that if the cost is Dalton.
