Hi,
I am creating a startup superflex league and I'm having an issue with the roster size construction. To mix things up, I wanted to have this be a 14 team league but I'm worried that 30 roster spots is too much and the waiver wire won't be as active during the season. Right now we have 10 OFF (QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, 2 FLEX, SF) + 4 IDP + 16 bench spots. Wondering if we need to cut roster size down to 25 or 28 total.
Appreciate any thoughts or comments.
Thanks.

Given its IDP it needs to be bigger IMO. I would want 34-36 or so

Hi. Thanks for the response. I'm curious why you think that given that we only have 4 IDP spots.

It comes down to the limits on positions, but also if its dynasty you want some space to stash players.
So if it was start 10 or 11, of which say 6 were flex then you a smaller bench is ok. But when you have to fill multiple positions, have enough in the tank for byes and injuries and still have a bit of space to stash players who you think may have some long term upside, 16 bench spots is actually not that much
Start 2 QB + (2-3 for FLEX, byes, injuries) = 4/5
Start 2 RB + (4-5 FLEX byes, injuries) = 6/7
Start 3 WR + (5-6 FLEX byes, injuries) = 8/9
Start 1 TE + (2-3 FLEX byes, injuries) = 3/4
You are at 30 or so before you have even taken IDP into account.
In my mind, the sweet spot is:
1QB leagues with 2RB and 3WR with one flex - 25-26 roster spots
2QB leagues 2RB and 3WR with one flex - 28-30 roster spots
Each additional flex add two spots.
For IDP, its starter position +2 (so in the case of 4 IDP, I would want 12 spots)
But it comes down to what people prefer. In my longest running dynasty league, which is a group of friends, they want small benches so that people dont hoard players and so that the waiver is a bit more active.
