The team that drafted both Daniel Jones and Will Grier may have been desperate since he only had one starting QB on his roster.

Murray 1.04 in SF!? :wtf:

My friend recently took Lock 1.09 and Jones 1.11, but he has Flacco and Manning as his only two QBs (recent dispersal) and has an otherwise solid team. So I guess in that specific sense I could understand reaching.

My draft is June 1st: 12 team, Superflex, 1/2 PPR scoring—and I know that the 1.1 pick will be Murray because the owner traded into that pick to get him.

I traded out of that pick to get multiple no.1s in 2020 and Josh Rosen, LOL.

The word on the street pre-draft is also that 3-4 quarterbacks will go in round 1. I traded out of the first entirely because the talent is not there worthy of the round this year overall. I could get as big of a risk/reward in rd2, and boost my 2020 position in the process.

Not one QB in this draft is worthy of a first round pick post-draft, not even in a Superflex system. This draft has first round talent at TE, and a couple of WRs may be worthy of the position. It is a historically poor offensive year for rookie talent.

Back to QBs, Matt Waldman had only Will Grier as a top QB prospect before the draft, and even that changed after the draft for the worse. Grier was said to be the QB 4-6 if he had been part of the 2018 grouping. The only one comparably talented to that class.

Daniel Jones got failing marks in accuracy in all statistical categories from Waldman, among other negatives. He is said to be a product of the old school QB thinking of NFL execs, and the tape does not match the measurables.

10 TM, 2QB, Non-PPR

1.01 Murray
1.04 Haskins
2.05 Jones
2.06 Lock
4.01 Grier
4.05 Stidham
5.05 Finley
5.06 Stick

--------------------------------
12 TM, SF, .5PPR, No K/DST
1.04 Murray
1.10 Haskins
2.09 Jones
2.12 Lock
4.01 Stidham
4.06 Grier

In sum, on the average, you're probably seeing Murray and Haskins go within the Top 5 picks...and then Jones + Lock may fall deeper into the 2nd round at the latest.

Wow, I don't even like Haskins or Jones that much, but those guys are steals at 2.04 and 3.10.

So I get Jones is not a very highly touted prospect (I have been against him until recently) But I am not arrogant enough to think I know more then professional scouts. They take him at 1.06 (even if it is the NYG) I have to give that some pretty strong consideration. Of course they get these wrong all the time but they also get them right too. And it is much easier to replace your chance at getting a solid WR then a solid QB.

QB is a position that I follow analytics scouting religiously because good QBs were normally "good" in college.

Analytics would have steered you towards: Goff, Watson, Mayfield, Darnold and even someone like Dak Prescott (although the NFL didn't feel the same) and helped you steer clear or be wary of guys like: Paxton Lynch, Bortles, Hackenberg, Kizer, etc.

Allen and Jackson - too early to tell, but we'll learn a lot more in 2019....both had issues throwing the ball in college and their rushing abilities have masked people's concern with their long-term outlook. Both had subpar high school and collegiate production.

Rosen - above average analytics but poor play + instability, he could find himself relegated to backup only duties after only 2 years.

Wentz - FCS, so he was a bit of a wild card.

Nick Mullens - analytics pointed to him being someone who could play QB at the next level, now, like Prescott, things broke his way to make it happen but the dude showed a hell of a lot more than Beathard.

ALL IN ALL, I'm not wasting a premium pick on guys with bad profiles, which both Lock and Jones have. Teams make QB mistakes all the time, the fact the NYG passed up all 5 guys last year for Daniel Jones is amazing. Granted, when you compare the long-term effectiveness of a WR or RB...might you be better off taking a QB instead? Sure, drafting enough DGB's or Kevin White's or Corey Coleman's can cause that.

If you already have a solid QB foundation and want some depth? Fine, take Jones or Lock when the value is right but if I'm hurting at the position, I'd rather trade for someone I know will be around for a while.

We did a startup this year, all of us first time SF players, and the QBs went like this in our rookie draft:

1.02 Kyler Murray (me)
1.05 Dwayne Haskins
4.03 Drew Lock
4.04 Will Grier
4.08 Daniel Jones
5.03 Gardner Minshew
5.07 Jarrett Stidham (me)

Definitely an odd draft in terms of valuing QBs...

*Funny story - I was in talks to trade up to 1.01 from 1.02 to get Murray... I offered 1.02 and a 2021 1st OR 1.02 and one of my depth pieces. He (correctly) assumed I wanted Murray but he decided to turn down the deal and took Jacobs. Even after I told him I wanted Murray and only had 2 QB on my roster at that point

The hate has gone too far for Jones. Your mistake if you pass him up. He’s worth a later 1st imo. If the Giants go 1-6 he’ll start the rest of the way. Reports say he’s looking good too.
