Daniel Jones Conundrum

Postby Chwf3rd » Mon May 06, 2019 11:14 am

Where to draft Daniel Jones in SF/2QB rookie drafts is one of the most interesting questions this year. He is almost universally seen as more of a Round 2 prospect that was overdrafted by the Giants at 6th overall. On the other hand, he's a top 10 overall QB draft pick and should get every opportunity to succeed in that offense on a long leash. This situation reminds me of Josh Allen last year where Allen routinely fell anywhere from late 1st round to mid 2nd round. Lots of broader questions regarding Superflex/2QB strategy are at play here - how much should we really value starting QBs? How much do we factor in draft capital? etc.

Where do we think he should be drafted?

I'm a Giants fan and absoultely hated that pick. That said most of the backlash is because the Giants took him at 6 and probably could have taken Allen, then traded up using the 17 pick to get him OR waited to get him at 17. So I don't think that should affect his fantasy status. I'm not sure exactly how high I'd take him. I traded 2.01 for Ridley this offseason so I probably won't have a pick in the range he'll go, but if he's still there at 3.01 (in a 10 team league) I'd certainly take him with out hesitation. I think ultimately he'll end up right around where Allen ended up last year, somewhere between pick 11 and 17, but you can use the hate to your advantage as people will stay away from him because of the critisizm for the Giants taking him at 6.
