IDP in an auction

Postby auggiedoggies » Tue Apr 15, 2014 6:16 am

First time participating in an IDP auction. What's the play here? In feel like I should focus on offense, snag a few lbs, and worry about DL/DBs late in the auction.

We start:

1QB
2RB
3WR
1TE
1Flex

3DL
3LB
3DB
1Flex

14 teams, standard ppr offensive scoring. Def scoring is 1.5 per tackle, .5 per assist, 6 per sack

A sack is worth 7.5 points in your league (6 for the sack + 1.5 because it is also considered a tackle).

I wouldn't pay huge money for Quinn, Watt, etc but I would spend decent money to get 3 double digit sack guys.

I play in a big play IDP were sacks are worth 7 solos and yours is 5 times so they are relatively the same.

I will admit that one huge factor to my great year was my DL. I had Chandler Jones, Greg Hardy and Mario Williams. Other guys had a DL that combined for 15-20 sacks......my line gave me more than 40.

Same goes for LBs. I would look to get 4 LB2 quality guys. Those 4 combined will likely cost only a little bit more than Kuechly. Defensive depth is key in your league. Don't spend a ton of money on one defensive stud.

I concur with ebreeze except I think J.J. Watt is the exception. He had a "down" year last year and still was at the top of the IDP fantasy points standings with Quinn. The year before, he was worth more than the next 2 IDPs combined. Quinn is also worth making a push for, but don't break the bank. After that, go for depth but quality DEs are key.
Commish of 4 leagues. Prefer full roster, IDP, salary cap, contract leagues designed to replicate the NFL GM experience as much as possible. Because THAT'S the fantasy.

If I were you I'd use FADS to determine decent values for these guys in auction. It will help determine appropriate values based upon your scoring system, roster requirements and salary cap.

I'm in this league as well. I couldn't afford the big IDP studs after focusing on my offense. But, do you think Kendricks, Levy are pretty consistent starters?

You want Kendricks over Levy. Kendricks is a LB1, Levy a LB2.

Yeah I own both Kendricks and Levy. Luke and David went super high as they should. So, are you saying Levy is dependable if I'm just looking for LB2 production?

Yes. Do not expect Levy to produce LB1 numbers. At worst, he will produce high end LB3 numbers.

Well since this got revived, I figured I would throw out who I've got so far and what I paid:

Greg Hardy 4.7 m
Chandler Jones 6.7m (definite overpay here. oops)
Von Miller 2.7 m
Daryl Washington 4.2 m

For some perspective, Kuechly went for 9.7 and Watt went for 11

Thoughts?

Hardy and Chandler combined for Watt is very nice IMO. I own Hardy and Chandler so I may be bias but they should give you 25-30 sacks combined

I like Von Miller at 2.7 and Hardy/Chandler for Watt's price not bad.

The typical case of the rest of the league thinking "Oh No, that guy is 30 years old. Run Away! Being 30 means he has no value and won't produce any good numbers for my dynasty team".

I love owners like that. Hence why I have Brandon Marshall on my team. I traded for him last year. People give up too early on proven vets and salivate too early over unproven potential. Both guys you got are great for the next 3 years, especially Weddle.
