Help with trading values between offense and defense

Postby Zebrahead07 » Tue Jun 07, 2022 11:52 pm

Last year we implemented a massive overhaul in our IDP scoring. 3/12 of our overall season points were LBs with Watt, Oluokun, and brooks. Brooks outscored all RBs and outscored Ekeler by 25 points. I was offered the trade for team 1 in the sig.

Give: Kamara+2023 4th

Receive: Brooks+2023 2nd+2024 2nd

I just blew my team up as it was primarily older in age and acquired some young talent and picks. Would you like this trade for this team?

this is all league/scoring/starting requirements-dependent, but as a general rule, never give a good starter on offense for a stud on defense. with very few exceptions.

also, LBs outscoring RBs means nothing: QBs outscore every other position and yet their value is low, because they ALL score a lot and are replaceable. this is true for most IDPs as well, the difference between a LB1 and LB4 is a lot less than the difference between a RB1 and RB4, so it doesn't matter if a LB scores a lot, if you can easily find someone that scores 75% of what he does.

What would you say brooks is worth in offensive terms? In picks?

In the leagues where my teams A & B are, a stud IDP will score 30-35 pts on a great week (just like an offensive player)

In those leagues, Brooks might fetch a late 1st in a bad class. I don’t think anyone would pay a 23 First for any off-ball LB tho, maybe Devin White.

In most leagues tho, where a stud LB is still only scoring 15 MAYBE 20 pts in a great week - if you can get a 2nd for them, I consider yourself lucky.

This needs to be your main takeaway from this thread.

Where is Cody Barton rostered? Not a ton of leagues, meanwhile he'll be a LB2/3. Good luck finding a RB2 on the WW or at the bottom of someone's roster for something cheap.

The scoring, as long as it is enough to make a guy viable, doesn't matter near as much as starting requirements. In the NFL each team has 1,aybe 2 rbs getting worthwhile touches weekly and with flexes in a lot of leagues we start 3 or 4 or so, sometimes more. At LB there are twice as many, even significantly more if not true position and yet out of that much larger pool we often start even less guys, realistically we should be starting way more lbs than rbs for value to be anywhere near fair
