Rams LBs - Kiser/Reeder Going Forward

Postby failblazer » Wed Mar 31, 2021 7:04 am

I'm sure like many here, I was in on Kiser last offseason and was able to scoop up a lot of shares for next to nothing. The Rams' LB spot has recently been one to generate a lot of production but the Rams have shown a willingness to move on to the next guy and plug him in, rather than pay guys. They moved on from Ogletree to Littleton (an undrafted player) and then let Littleton himself go off to be overpaid by the Raiders and plugged in 5th round pick Kiser.

I myself tried to move some of my Kiser shares last season, knowing how replaceable he likely was (traded him straight up for Isaiah Simmons after week 3 in one league). Given that Kiser is in the last year of his rookie deal, are owners looking to cash out on him or do you believe he has more long term value than I am giving him credit for?

Conversely, is the job necessarily his for sure or is there the chance of Troy Reeder or a rookie outright takes his spot? I know it is not the be all and end all but I notice Kiser had a PFF grade of 40.0, whereas Reeder's was 60.4.

UPDATE - Looking further into the situation, I am also seeing some buzz amongst Rams writer for 2018 7th round pick Travin Howard, who was recently signed to a one year restricted free agent tender. For any who don't know, he's an undersized guy at around 220 lbs, who started out as a special teams standout before being touted for a starting role last year. He ended up on injured reserve but it is interesting how many similarities there are to the rise of Corey Littleton. One big strength is that he does not miss tackles, something Kiser, Reeder and Young struggled with last year. If the Rams don't address the position meaningfully in the draft then Howard could be a good late round dart throw or free agent pick up just to see how the situation shakes out in training camp.

Reeder looked better than Kiser to me, but they're both subpar in coverage.

Good post. I remember hearing good things about Howard but the addition of Ernest shoots that down.

Reeder was a whole lot better than Kiser I’d imagine he’s locked in for three downs. He was everywhere and did a little of everything.

Watched Ernest every Saturday. He's a good college lb, but he's nothing special. Good instincts, but a step slow sideline to sideline and in coverage.

Looks like it’s reeder and young.
