Best IDP Scoring
Been trying for years to get the IDP scoring to become more in line with their offensive counterparts. What are some of the scoring systems that leagues use to accomplish this. Our league is a little basic with two DB two DL and 3LB.

Re: Best IDP Scoring
We start 2 DL 2 LB and 2 DB, with one flex. Scoring is very tackle heavy (1.5 points per) making ILB the RB of the defense. DL and DB are hard positions to score consistently unless they're safeties that get a lot of tackles. So we reward splash plays pretty heavily. INT's worth 5 FF worth 4.polk_high_allstar wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 7:09 am Been trying for years to get the IDP scoring to become more in line with their offensive counterparts. Our scoring usually results in LB's being the most valuable defensive piece with the top LB's scoring between 200-230 a year, in line with the top RB's minus the obvious 1-2 that go crazy every year.
what makes it fun is that there are a few teams in the league where their LB's are their best position group on their team, and can still compete. While you won't win with just LB's it still gives you new ways to build your team

Re: Best IDP Scoring
A sack needs to be worth at least 7-10 points, IMO - If not 10-15. My leagues score about 5-7 points for a sack, plus 2-3 pts for the TFL, plus 0.5 point per yard lost on the sack itself. A guy like Aaron Donald or Myles Garrett is worth as much as just about any offensive player.
You need to start more than 2 at each position tho, if you want IDP to really matter. I recommend 3 of each position, plus 2 flex

Re: Best IDP Scoring
I think a sack, pick, forced and recovered fumble, etc. need to be scored as the game changing plays they are a pick six probably impacts a game more than a long TD throw and should be treated as such and a sack is usually in that same range. I think 10 to 15 points is about right for those big plays and I think total scoring should be adjusted to where top LBs and DEs score like top RBs and WRs.
That said, I think even more important than that is there needs to be a solid number of defensive starters. On offense there are 6 players per play that can score, on defense there are 11. Just by that alone if your league is starting more offensive players than defensive you are doing it wrong and logically there should be nearly twice as many defensive starters.
To break it down further on any given play in the NFL there are on average 3 wrs, 1 rb, and 1 TE give or take. There are, by contrast, 3 DLs, 3 LBs, and 5 DBs give or taken, on average with maybe a shift from the or if you split them as you should 1 DT, 2 DEs, 3 LBs, 3 CBS, and 2 safeties, maybe shifted a little toward 4 DL and 2 LBs and with some of those 3rd CBS being safeties but just for round numbers. By that logic you should be starting as many total DLs and LBs as wrs and almost twice as many DBs. There should be twice as many DEs and safeties as rbs, as many cbs and lbs as wrs.
