DE Comp (J. Houston vs. Brandon Graham)

Postby sperl14 » Thu Apr 30, 2020 11:16 am

Hey All -

Have an upcoming pick in a dispersal draft. Targeting a DE, as they've gone fast. Brandon Graham is left and then a big dropoff. Have another owner offering Justin Houston for the upcoming pick plus another later round option.

How do you compare the 2 in IDP? Assume standard settings. Which player would you lean?

Thoughts appreciated. Thanks!

Take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt. I'm brand new to IDP, and I'm a Colts fan. But, I think Buckner is going to demand a ton of attention, thus freeing up Houston substantially. In my scoring, last year Houston was 8th and Graham was 18th. I would have guessed Houston would drop from 8th had Buckner not showed up. But, he did. So, I'm guessing he stays higher than Graham. I'm taking Houston pretty easily. Especially if I'm picking up a pick to do it.

Would you Colt fans say the same would be applied to Kemoko Turay?

Honestly, I'm not sure where Turay fits in anymore. Houston & Buckner are the main DE's, so Turay is probably a backup with Banogu. Buckner might spend a decent amount of time as a DT as well, which might get Turay back on the field more. Unless you're in a crazy deep league, I don't see Turay having much value now that Buckner came to town.

I’m higher on Turay personally, but that’s IF he can get and stay healthy.

Buckner will almost totally play inside, so there are snaps aplenty there for the taking, across from Houston.

Good insight. I thought Buckner's main role would be DE with DT secondary. It's good to know it's the other way around. Then I would join you in being pretty high on Turay. I know the Colts like him a lot too. So, the ideal line for them would have all 3 of them out there a lot then.
To the original question on Turay then, if that is the case, Turay should see the same boost Houston sees in value from having Buckner I would imagine.
