2019 ROOKIE Safety rankings

1. Johnathan Abram - the prototypical hard-hitting box safety. Definitely in a tier all by himself in this class (for IDP purposes)

2. Marquis Blair - His best attributes are present when he plays strong safety, so my GUESS is he will play down low.

3. Will Harris - Same thing as with Blair, there is absolutely some risk that Harris plays up high in Detroit, since they lost their FS. But again, he’s best when he’s in the box.

4. Khari Willis - There is no way Indy drafted him as early as the 4th to play FS, but there IS a chance he doesn’t beat out Geathers for the starting SS gig. Nice player tho.

5. Mike Edwards - Only at Safety5, and already getting to mid-round guys who aren’t definite box players. He’s a nice guy to target towards the end of your rookie draft.

6. Darnell Savage - Probably will play free safety in GB, as Amos is much better suited to play in the box than up high, but Savage could continue the HHCD tradition of giving you fantasy points no matter where he plays.

The Taylor Rapp pick confused me. The Rams didn’t seem to have a glaring need at safety, but he was picked so darn early they must have a plan for him.

Nasir Adderley looks like a poor man’s Jamal Adams on film. Very instinctive and a hard hitter, but also wonderful in coverage. He will almost certainly play back as a FS tho, so he’s not a target of mine.

Not sure where he fits in for the Titans

Good stash if in a super deep league, but I’m not one to stash DBs

Curious, how early did you have to grab him?

Abrams went at 3.01 in a 12 team draft I'm currently in.

How do you feel about Ronnie Harrison vs this draft class?

I’d take Harrison over all rookie DBs except for Abram

Abram went 24th and 28th in the two IDP league rookie drafts I've had so far. Scoring is the same in both of those leagues. Jamal Adams (DB1) last year had 181.5 points, in line with Kenyan Drake (RB17, 180.2 points) and Jarvis Landry/Amari Cooper (tied at WR18, 179.5 points).

Editing to add starters since that'll provide more context:
Offense: QB / 2 RB / 3 WR / TE / Flex
Defense: DT / 2 DE / 3 LB / CB / 2 S / 2 Flex

I got Abram at 4.11! 12 team ppr where we start 2,2,2 and 1 flex for idp and 9 players start on offense. Top DB (J Adams) scored 170 last year in this format.

What do you think about Sheldrick Redwine S from Cleveland. Some of the local reports are that he could take the starting job off of Morgan Burnett as an in the box safety.

I don’t see it, at least not this year. Someone to keep on the watchlist tho.

Very good question.

No one knows for sure what Miami will do with their safeties this year, but last year TJ-Mac was more the box safety and Reshad Jones play back more often as a free. Then you also have Minkah, who reportedly wishes to play safety but they have him at slot corner.

For now, TJ-Mac is the only one I feel fairly confident about as a weekly starter.
