Apparentley he's gonna play DE there? That's interesting. He seems a natural fit to play 4-3 DT... Shows what I know. That would really cap Fowler and/or Nkagoe, no? Create almost a Minnestoa D-line situation?

Interesting scheme wise. Either he starts inside and he and Malik J both try and avoid lining up over centre OR he starts instead of Fowler/Ngakoue [this is my favourite option] OR the scheme changes

Personally I think Ngakouse is a bit meh and Fowler was very underwhelming. A big 3-man line with Fowler/Ngakoue scrapping it out for snaps makes sense. They can get another pass rusher and corner in their first 2 picks anyway

Jags don't run a standard 4-3, they run 4-3 under. This signing combined with Abry Jones 4yr/16mil extension (decent money for a base down NT) means they plan to still do so with Gus Bradley in town. Calais will be a drop in replacement (and huge upgrade) to Jared Odrick. Below is my prediction

(Base)
5T SDE: Campbell
1T NT: Abry Jones
3T DT: Malik Jackson
LEO: Ngaouke (played better than Fowler last year)

(Subpackages)
DTs: Campbell and Jackson
DEs: Ngaouke and Fowler

Biggest question in JAX for IDP is will they truly let Myles Jack play all 3 downs and who will play SAM? (Bruce Irvin/Phillip Wheeler/Dan Skuta role) in base because it's a terrible alignment for tackle numbers.

Gonna have to watch this closely, been hanging on to Fowler hoping his rookie injury slowed him down. Also have Malik, so will his snap count drop?

On the other hand, picked up Nkemdiche in case Campbell left, will he be the started there despite a lack luster rookie season?

I agree here. It felt like what Seattle did with Bennett/Avril/Clark perhaps

The personnel is an interesting mix here. Fowler would be SAM if I was asked to improve this defense. Putting him on the field as a DE really limits his effectiveness because it is not his NFL fit. That should be obvious by now.

Also notice his on field play was riddled with penalties as he really pressed to beat much bigger o-linemen out of a 3-point stance.

Couldn't agree more about Fowler. I've been saying for two years that Fowler is best suited for SAM. JAX agrees too, they went hard after Olivier Vernon last year and if they would have got him Fowler would have moved to SAM. Only issue with Fowler as SAM is one LB is benched. They love Poz's leadership, but Telvin and Jack need to play too. They really need to make a financial decision and let Poz try to go to a contender but they seem stern on keeping him.

I'm writing down this day, that Breeze and I have agreed on one player. I just looked out the window to see if the sun has risen in the west.

So, in your opinion, what kind production and snap counts should we be expecting from Calais this season? I'm trying to figure out if I should be selling high or could this possibly be an even better situation for him than what he had with the Cardinals?
