DE Johnathan Allen

I've been aware of the mock drafts and such. Chicago at #3 was making a lot of sense... just as Myles Garrett to Cleveland at #1 does. Today I see that Casserly has moved him up to San Francisco at #2 . If you follow that link you'll see that Casserly calls Allen "an excellent 3-4 DE".

I don't get it. Is he trolling us? Or does he project SF to move one of their previous two 1st round DEs? I give up.

Only going off the logic of that mock, maybe he's assuming that Armistead would be benched? Or that they would go to a 4-3, with Allen as a DT, and he just mistyped a whole sentence?? Haha idk man, I'm with ya... :P

San Francisco confuses me more than any team. Assuming they do run a 4-3 under, picking Allen then would sort of make sense but just way too much capital in the DL. Allen could play 5T DE (Michael Bennett/Jared Odrick), and then Buckner/Armstead would play the 1T NT and 3T DT. It works but I just really don't like the fits. Buckner and Armstead are very lanky guys and I feel like they would lose leverage on the inside. However Michael Brockers who is like 6-6 has been a very good 1T/3T DT for Free Williams so maybe one of them could succeed at NT too. San Francisco is praying for Garrett to drop. They need an edge rusher way more than an interior lineman. Picking Allen at #2 is similar to the Lions a decade ago when they just kept picking top 10 WRs, need to make a complete team. Also San Francisco has a GM, HC and DC with absolutely no experience in their roles. Shanahan is going to try to be the HC, OC and person in charge of the 53 man roster. Really seems like he is biting off more than he can chew. Add in an inexperienced GM and DC, this really looks like a nuclear meltdown to me if they don't absolutely nail so rookie picks.
