Clowney Deserves DL Eligibility on Yahoo

Postby Sportseditor23 » Thu Sep 22, 2016 4:33 am

It is my understanding that Yahoo's positional eligibility is tied to whatever rotoworld decides. Clowney's value in Yahoo leagues has always been muted because he (i) can't stay on the field and, even if he could (ii) is only eligibile as a linebacker. Thus far this season, the Texans are routinely lining him up opposite Watt on the line, especially on third downs when the team doesn't want him in coverage.

This happened in the Chiefs game as well. Any idea who to contact to make this happen?

They monitor snap usage at positions. Third downs wouldn't qualify as sufficient enough if that's only when his hand is in the ground.

That said, the Roto individual pops by occasionally so perhaps he will respond with feedback. That said, I have no idea if Roto is what Yahoo uses.

I don't think that Yahoo uses Rotoworld. MFL does.

Yeah, I agree. I feel Yahoo uses whatever arbitrary position they fee they should. For hockey I know they had pretty much every player as a dual or triple position eligible. It was just reset, but it used to be a dogs breakfast. I don't think they got that from Roto, but I could be wrong.

Interested to see what the snap numbers look like because they are continually moving him around (not necessarily just on third downs as my representation above). Hope he gets it!

Yahoo has no position standards. Its just random. They are extremely slow to react if they ever do. Deone Bucannon still hasn't taken a snap at Safety since his rookie year but is DB eligible. Jerry Hughes and Chandler Jones are obvious LBs too. As for gaining eligibility, if you promote gaining it then you also promote taking it away mid season which I think is a very bad idea.

MFL uses Rotoworld but they also lock for the entire year. Imagine mid year having a position change and totally screw up your lineup because that player loses DL or DB eligibility and changes to a LB. Will cause more harm than good.

I think it's totally fair to add eligibility but not remove in the same year given the risks you outline of team management. A designation could be removed after year end.

People always want whatever benefits them, regardless if it is consistent or not apparently...

If guys like Chandler Jones still have DL, there will be others, and Clowney shouldn't even be necessary. Yahoo is probably the right host for your league.

I agree, that seems kind of dumb to me. I could see him realistically moving to DE, but I'd like to see him play the position more before they give him the designation.

Sure I understand I am biased, but, frankly, I would just prefer clear standards. It makes sense to me for there to be flexibility, especially with respect to defensive positions.

If you want clear standards then Yahoo likely isn't the place to be. Dogs breakfast.

I haven't watch every Texans snap through 2 weeks, but from what I have seen Clowney has played majority (if not all) at DE. So far through the 1st quarter of the game vs NE, he has had his hand on the ground for every snap he's been on the field.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Clowney get an official move to DE for 2017 if this continues.

Does anyone know of a site that tracks positional snap count? I remember seeing one a while ago, but for the life of me I cannot find it again.

I've watched every snap of HOU so far and he's played DL every play. It's the Texans way of getting him, Simon and Mercilua on the field. Too bad they waited till week 1 to try it out after positions locked. They never did this last year or at all this preseason

Not that I'm aware of. Position in subpackages is subjective too. Some call 4-2-5 a 2-4-5 when ends are in a 2 point stance.
