Young ILBs coming into big roles?

Postby lukkynumber13 » Thu Aug 04, 2016 8:58 pm

Finishing up my first salary-cap league auction, and these are the best young LBs available, I have a great shot @ getting at least 1 of them for a minimum deal ($1).

Anyone stand out to you guys, for better or for worse? Care to rank them? THANK YOU!

Benardrick McKinney
Reggie Ragland
Shaq Thompson
Christian Kirksey
Anthony Hitchens
Ben Heeney
Todd Davis

There are also some solid vets available: KJ Wright, Demario Davis, and Nigel Bradham

Btw, this league rewards big plays (Mack is a top 6 LB), so here are some young pass rushers available: Correa, Preston Smith, Markus Golden, Kevin Dodd & Shaq Lawson

I'm intrigued by the votes for me to pursue the pass rush. Which of them would be most attractive?

I like Golden a lot, and Korrea intrigues me. The 2 rookies from Clemson (Dodd & Lawson) mainly seem attractive to me only in the event that, 2-3 years down the road, they get re-labeled as DEs. Same with P. Smith. But I don't know! Any insight is much appreciated.

pass rushers depend entirely on the league. Unless it's really big play heavy [<6 sack and >1.5 solo] I just dont find it worth it. They stick up your lineup for 2-3 weeks for every week they score big.

I went for:
1) Wright. Far and away the pick here for me.
2) McKinney, Ragland and Heeney. Im expecting decent seasons from all of them but not to be stars.
3) Shaq T. If you can afford to have him develop another year into a starting spot.

Wright is super under valued - top 24 LB the last 3 seasons - not many others can lay that claim

Echo these sentiments. Tom, you're gonna be a real pain in my bleep come draft time :D

Thanks everybody! I was able to get McKinney so far but lost K. Wright last minute to sniper. Bid on Ragland but didn't want to pay extra for him given the injury news so I let the other bidder take him.

Will try for Shaq T, possibly Kirksey & Hitchens, and probably Demario Davis (for depth) tomorrow. If I lose on all those guys, or if I only get one, I'll pursue Preston Smith & Markus Golden.

As far as aging pass rushers, would Demarcus Ware and Terrell Suggs be worth a shot? The elite guys like Mack & Von, and even Mercilus & M. Ingram are already taken. It's a pretty rewarding league for big play guys, Mack was an elite LB option, Von Miller was still like an LB3 even in a down statistical year, & Melvin Ingram was an LB2 last year.

I like Golden and Preston Smith. Think both take big steps forward this year. Ware still has some left in the tank but I like Shane Ray as a future play there. Maybe even starting this year as well.

Look at John Timu from Chicago too. He's my LB sleeper this year. Not a playmaker, just a solid tackler.

Ragland (see you let him go), McKinney (word is he is shifting to 3 down back!), Heeney (wearing the dot - signal caller but no longer MLB and will be an ILB), Shaq is great if you are holding for a year and Kirksey may have a breakout year because the snaps are all his now.

Ragland has a partial torn tendon - may miss the entire season

In big play league, may take a run on Preston Smith. It's interesting all of those players were available; none, with the exception of Preston (who I dropped for Shaq) are available in any of my leagues.

We are just finishing our startup auction, that's why they were still available haha

So I was able to grab McKinney, Demario Davis, and Kirksey for minimum wage. Lost out on Shaq T (UGH!) & Heeney. P. Smith & Golden are still available
