Buy-low IDP's in 2016

Postby jnappy » Fri May 13, 2016 9:56 pm

Who do you think are some buy-low IDP's in 2016? We just ramped out IDP scoring to make them more balanced with offensive players, so I need to take the positions more seriously this season. The only problem is I don't know much about IDP at all. Who are people sleeping on that could be acquired for cheap and finish in the top 10 in their position this year?

DL
Danielle Hunter
Dante Fowler (owner may have taken him late last year and may part with him for a high 3rd which I'm willing to play)
Jurrell Casey

LB - I'd look for older producers for some cheap production.
Want a top 5 LB that won't cost as much as Kuechly or David? Target NaVorro Bowman.
Derrick Johnson
DeAndre Levy (people seem to have forgotton how productive he was)
One guy I can't quit is Sio Moore. He showed a lot of potential in OAK and has a wide open depth chart in Indy. He's probably on the WW in many leagues, but I think there is opportunity there.

DB
It's really a crapshoot for me at DB.
TJ McDonald may come a little cheaper coming off injury and with his recent DUI. When on the field, he's in my top 10 for sure.

Skip Growskey's list of cheap DEs. You don't want to buy lotto tickets at DE. You're looking for bargains.

Everson Griffen could be DE2 this year. Buy now.
Ezekiel Ansah may not come as cheap, but if he is: Buy now.
Sneaky strong DE5 candidate: Cam Jordan. Buy now.

Linebackers are volatile like runningbacks. My approach is to buy a bunch of cheap ones. Picking them is more psychological, but the concept is basic: quantity.

DBs are different every year. Wait until the end of preseason to grab a couple sneaky plays. Don't waste any time looking at them right now.

Are those mutually exclusive? He asked for buy low and I doubt you can get any of Griffen, Ansah, or Jordan without paying DL1 prices. The guys I chose should all see a good # of snaps and have talent to far outperform what you pay for them, especially picking up Hunter for free.

I agree completely about the DBs and somewhat about the LBs. My premise of targeting older, productive LBs can come at an even cheaper price during rookie drafts because people are so focused on picking up rookie LBs. Its the perfect time to load up and get depth.

I think Devin Taylor, DE for DET could be a good buy low. He'll be starting across from Ansah this year and has steadily improved each year in the league. I could see 50+ tkl, 10+ sacks.

I just bought Everson Griffen in two leagues for Leonard Williams. It can be done. OP said buy lows, and I meant "these guys could be very expensive after this season." Take that for what it's worth, but I bought low on JJ Watt in 2014 coming off a down year (for him). Buying low on JJ Watt did cost me more than a 22 yr old sophomore project, fwiw.

Growskey, I'm making a very intentional point about DE. You don't use the quantity approach as you might with runningbacks or linebackers. There are only 8-10 that are worth their price in a format where 32 start every week. I say go for it , and buy into two that you think have potential to win you the ship. I named three that have top 5 potential this year. I can afford to do that by skipping the overpay at RB - zero theory guy here.

Completely agree. PFF has had him as a top 5 pass rusher the last two seasons, albeit as a part time player. Will be interesting to see if he maintains the same intensity with more snaps, but I'm a believer.

Piggy backing off the Curry call I'm all in for Brandon Graham! Finally in the right scheme can't wait to see what he can do.

Love the Levy call, been scooping him up super cheap.

For me

DL - Frank Clark - labeled as a DL but might be playing SLB - chance for some solid points

LB - some mentioned previously - Orr, Henney, I like Curtis Grant in Tenn and JOsh Mauga in KC

DB - Mcloed in Philly and Ibraham Campbell in CLE
