Re: Why is PPR the new standard?
I think First Downs is a far superior statistical measure of player performance than, say, Receptions. Now that first downs are a readily available statistic, we can better differentiate what actually matters to a NFL team. Is a RB catching a short swing pass for a couple yards on 1st and 10 worth t...

Re: Start-Up Auction Strategy
So I'm now 2 weeks into this (very) slow start-up auction. Here are my initial conclusions (in the hope that this helps others doing later start-up auctions): The first guys off the board turned out to be, for the most part but with some exceptions, huge bargains in retrospect. People didn't know ho...

Re: Sort of repost - QB scoring changes?
Also, I honestly think that when it comes to evaluating QB scoring systems, we shouldn't include Peyton's 2013 stats at all. Its too much of abnormality. Or just use 2012 QB Stats instead.

Re: Sort of repost - QB scoring changes?
I try to make all the positions equivalent. But if I'm going to err, I'm going to do it on the side of making QBs the more important position. Here's how I set up the QB scoring in my new league: 0.1 pts per 2.5 passing yards 5 pts per Passing TD 0.5 pts per Passing 1st Down -1.5 pts per sack taken ...

Re: Sort of repost - QB scoring changes?
It's near impossible to have a scoring system where then top QB scores about the same as the top RB AND the 13th QB scores about the same as the 25th RB. That's basically the dilemma, since QBs are so deep there just isn't as much of a difference at the position, and increasing scoring is the only ...

Re: Sort of repost - QB scoring changes?
Personally, I prefer leagues where the scoring system is balanced to provide the same range of likely points at each position. That way, the top QB is given the same approximate value as the top RB and the top WR and top TE. Similarly, a replacement level player scores about the same as each of thos...

Re: Sort of repost - QB scoring changes?
Also, turnovers are incredibly big negative plays in the NFL. It is very difficult for a football team to win a game when they give the ball away. As such, I've always been a proponent of having large negative points associated with both interceptions and fumbles, and don't understand why some leagu...

Re: Sort of repost - QB scoring changes?
I'm all for increasing QB points and creating a greater point distribution to increase the value if top QBs in Start 1 QB leagues. The QB is the most important position in the NFL and I want fantasy leagues to reflect that reality. That being said, let me propose an alternative to increasing the poi...

Re: If Calvin Johnson is worth $16, Dez Bryant is worth ...
Thanks for the response, guys. Everyone is still feeling out the market, and it looks like there's a lot of slow playing and last minute bids to keep guys on the clock and wait for new nominations. I bid Dez up a little, but someone else is currently high bid at 12.5. Meanwhile, DT is at 13.5 and AJ...

If Calvin Johnson is worth $16, Dez Bryant is worth ...
I'm currently involved in a start-up auction. I hadn't planned on spending top dollar for one of the stud WRs, yet Dez Bryant is just sitting there right now at $11.50, compared to Calvin about to go off the board at $16.00. That seems too low to me. But do I re-write my auction plan to bid on him? ...

Re: Jadeveon Clowney draft pick
Looking back at the last 7 years of my 16-team, IDP, sal cap league, the first defender taken in the rookie draft has been at slots 1.12, 1.07, 1.12, 1.14, 1.08, 1.13, and 1.13. Avg to 1.11. The 2 highest picks were both LBs. The highest a DE has ever been taken was 1.14 (Derrick Morgan in 2010). Gr...

Re: Keeper Question: Drop Von Miller for Mychal Kendricks?
Based on standard IDP scoring, the above responses are correct. But man does it make me frustrated. If one of the goals of FF is to mimic the NFL GM experience, then our scoring systems need to reflect the true value of players to their NFL teams as accurately as possible. That's why I advocate for ...

Re: Draft Order - Reverse Rankings vs Lottery
We have a postseason tournament among the bottom teams to determine rookie draft order. The worst team in each matchup gets a point advantage based on their potential points difference with their opponent. But the team has to win the game to advance in the tournament. So badly performing teams still...

Re: Tips for Creating a League
In my new 16 team startup, we're paying 1 year ahead. I had no problems finding owners. Personally, I find the no-rookie idea intriguing. But that is mostly because I'm not a college football guy and have no idea who the rookies are when they come in and feel like I'm at a disadvantage. I think you'...
