Worst offers you received for Megatron, post "curse"

Postby joeday » Thu Apr 26, 2012 3:33 pm

Well some idiots who actually believing in curses may be willing to trade Megatron for nickels on the dollar, and some of us will try to prey on that. But in the leagues I have Megatron in I have received some doozies by people who think I might be one of those idiots who believe in curses. I quickly reject the deals with the comment "I don't believe in unicorns, santa clause or curses"

Worst offer I have received: Dwayne Bowe and a 1st for Calvin and a 3rd

I don't believe in curses, and while I don't own Calvin in ANY league, :( - I can't WAIT for Calvin to dispel this whole "Madden curse" thing!

No offense ( or take offense, I don't really care) but if anyone unironically advocates trading Calvin because of the Madden Curse, I am go ignore all of their future fantasy advice/opinions.

Same here...Megatron is not an over the hill RB (Faulk, George, Alexander), a no talent hack (Vince Young, Hillis), or a 40 year old QB who texts pics of his junk (you know who I mean lol)

BTW if Megatron is "Questionable" with a heel injury all season the curse can not claim him...cause that was him all of 2011! lol

:P I'm a superstitious guy. Sue me. I haven't washed my jock for hockey since I bought it, six years ago.

I'll happily ride out the year with him and take whatever loss is likely coming, waaaay ahead of underselling possibly the top dynasty player on the board, but it is really hard to argue with results. The "curse" produces results. If anyone is gonna beat it out, though, it'd be him.

Additionally, I think reacting to these kinds of things is part of the fun. I don't advocate selling Calvin because of the curse. That would be silly. I'm just going to try to, because maybe I like to be silly. And, while I did let it be known in previous threads that I'm a huge Calvin advocate, where else can he go but down in value? Maybe that's part of the curse... nearly any season following up such a career year winds up seeming disappointing?

Ugh NO IT DOESNT! Have you seen the players the curse "affected"?

1998 Garrison Hearst -- Yes this was a shame and arguably the only time a stud (in his prime) player got hurt after being on the cover
1999 Barry Sanders -- a 30 year old RB retired, tired of his team always losing...how is this a curse?
2000 Eddie George -- Eddie had the best season of his career the year he was on madden. The reason George's career went down hill after 2000 had less to do with the Madden cover and more to do with the almost 400 touches per season from 1996 to 2000.
2001 Daunte Culpepper -- Running QB #1
2002 Marshall Faulk -- A runningback going into his 9th season at 30 years old...was anyone banking on Faulk to be a stud this season at 31? I take more stock in the curse of 370 carries and the curse of RBs over 30 going downhill...
2003 Michael Vick -- Running QB #2
2004 Ray Lewis -- has had one of the longest successful careers of any defender EVER. Before and after being on the cover of madden!
2005 Donovan McNabb -- Running QB #3
2006 Shaun Alexander -- see Eddie George and Marshall Faulk!
2007 Vince Young -- Running QB #4 -- Also, VY was never a stud...never ever ever!
2008 Brett Favre -- 40 year old QB who got hit alot. Also bounced back for his best season the next year
2009 Fitzgerald/Polamalu -- Fitzgerald played all 16 games, 97 catches and the most TDs for a season in his career. Polamalu won Defensive Player of the year the year after the "curse"...keep in mind in 9 NFL seasons Troy has missed games in 4 of them (before and after the "curse")
2010 Drew Brees -- 4700 yards and 33 TDs...the 2nd most fantasy points among QBs that season
2011 Peyton Hillis -- if anyone replies to this and says "dude Hillis woulda been the next Emmitt Smith if he wasnt on the Madden cover" then I will never read another thing you write! lol...no one thought Hillis was more then a one year wonder, and he proved that (and would have regardless of the curse)

As you can see the "curse" is just something that people like to write about to fill up articles every year.

Yeah, I stopped reading right here, and I'm never taking your dynasty advice seriously again. You may as well be talking about voodoo or astrology.

So... 10/14 players listed had subpar seasons the following year. Well, 10/15 given the doubling of fitz/troy. You're giving reasons for decline, and all I'm saying is that they all happen to come just after the cover thing.

I have also said IT'S SILLY TO WORRY ABOUT A CURSE. I am not arguing that point. I will, however, argue with anyone that says that there haven't been results. 2/3 success rate is pretty nice. Vegas would kick you out for making those odds, regardless of why you make them.

I have also said that if anyone is going to beat the curse, it'd be Megatron. And I stick by that. Why? He isn't anything like any of the previously affected players, who all have reasons, as you've said, for decline*.

So why am I selling? I think it's fun. That's why.

Besides, if Calvin happens to die in a tragic gasoline fight accident three weeks into the season, I get to laugh my bleep off at another victim of the "curse" and not having that on my head. That's when things get fun!

*Reason for decline number one: Reiff whiffs on a block, Stafford's arms disintegrate.
P.S. Seriously though, if he dies, I'll only laugh a little. Death is sad.
