JJM or Maye

Postby Hankybro21 » Sun Apr 28, 2024 3:49 pm

I was higher on Maye going into the draft until the landing spots played out as they did.

Are we taking JJM over Maye now with JJM landing with the Vikings?

I have been circulating this in my head and I really think JJM is the best. I just don’t trust the NE offense in the next 2-3 years

For QBs I value talent over situation more than any other position. IMO, there is too big a gap in talent between the two for me to take JJM. Easily Maye for me.

I find myself being the opposite. I feel QBs are always a huge crapshoot and there’s very few who are capable of lifting a team without a good situation around them. So I tend to go for situation.

Running QBs are somewhat of an exception for fantasy as they will still score.

Always fun to see differing opinions. I don’t blame you or anyone else going Maye.

Just a reminder, that from a talent standpoint, the two aren't close and the Vikings agree: "The Vikings front office, in other words, did everything it could to move up and land Drake Maye. Instead, the stayed at pick 11 and took J.J. McCarthy. "

Except they didn’t stay at pick 11. But everything else is true.

I get the thought that JJM will be more productive than Maye in the short-term.

But will he really be *so* productive that you're using him on a championship team?? I highly doubt that will be the case, so I'm not factoring in production in this case over the next couple of years.

If it were JJM vs. say Daniels or a rookie D. Watson or Fields, then it makes sense to factor immediate production since their rushing numbers alone might get them in winning lineups. I just don't see JJM's numbers approaching that in 2024/2025, so I wouldn't factor that it.

I'm also in the camp about QB talent, though there are some teams were QBs seem to go to die. It's a real concern. And it's a new regime in NE...

I'm the same with people choosing JJM in this situation. If their assessment is the talent gap is minimal, and they see a huge advantage in JJM's landing spot, I don't think it's bad for them to go get their chosen guy.

Right now we don't know which one will hit, or if both will miss. Neither is close to a sure bet. Might as well choose the one you like better.
