Massive trade offer, stay the course or contend?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

1.07, 25 1st(mid-late) 25 1st(late) and 3.01 for Etienne, Monty, Henry and Evans?

Massive trade offer, stay the course or contend?

Postby Viking386 » Sun Apr 28, 2024 11:59 am

For team in signature.

Plan was always to go with the slow rebuild one more year and hit RB hard next year but an owner who has an aging top 3ish team sent me a huge offer wanting to blow his team up. I have his 25 first so of course he is coming to me first.

The offer is the 1.07, this managers 25 1st (would be late if he doesnt blow it up), the best team in the leagues 25 1st and the 3.01 for Etienne, Monty, Evans and Henry. At first glance I shook it off but then got to thinking this would give me a solid contender and Id still own two 25s to hit younger RBs next year.

What do you guys think stay the course of the slow rebuild or go for it? As of now Im still on the no side but curious if you guys can tilt that in any way.

I'm doing it too. Makes you an instant contender. Trade for Flacco and see what you can do about a QB2.

I have very little interest in Monty and only a little more in Henry. I like Evans and ETN.

Either way I'm not paying three firsts and a third for ETN, two vets on their last fantasy legs, and Monty.

Yeah kind of where I’m at, this would make me a top 3-4 team but who knows how much longer Henry has. He could fall off at any moment now. Even though both those 25s would be late as of now it would still be nice to go in with 4 25s to hammer home at RB

1) I think the current value is with the players.

And...
2) I don't love investing big in three RBs.
3) I think you could use those picks one at a time to add players (if you choose to do so) in August or September that, in the aggregate, would be even better value.

So I'm passing.

I mean I'm an Evans fan and Henry in BAL could be nasty, but those seem like 1-2 year plays at best (Henry); Evans might have another 2-3 years in him.

Monty is stuck in a timeshare so his upside is very limited to me unless Gibbs gets hurt-hurt. That really leaves ETN and he might find himself in a timeshare with Tank Bigsby this year.

If your team was a couple of depth pieces away from winning a chip, then maybe, but if not, I'd take my chances in the draft.

The biggest ? for me is Henry. The wheels could fall off at anytime or he could continue to be a top 10 finisher for the next 2 seasons. I like Monty and feel he will always have a solid role with Dan at the helm. From what Ive heard the Jags are about to lock up ETN on an extension I feel his role is as safe as it gets. Dont see a timeshare with Tank at all more of the same as last year. But I do agree I think Im more comfortable just taking a bunch of RBs in next years draft with the 4 firsts I own.

Honestly I'd price check Pacheco, ZWhite, AJones, RWhite, Warren, etc first. I have way better luck buying cheaper RBs than investing heavily in the position.

But yes, I would try to contend if you can figure out a few RBs.

All things considered (1qb league, your roster, the picks you have) I'd make the trade. Whether these vets hold up for one more year or two more years, it makes you an instant sure contender. AND you still have two 1sts for next year.

There are a couple of big dividing lines in dynasty.

One is the Picks Crowd versus the Vets Believers. The Picks almost always prefer draft picks over veteran players unless we're talking T5 players at their position. The Picks people really want that long-term production that might get if they hit on a 22 year old player. The Vets guys will love the proven production of a player who has done it before. The Vets guys are happy with 2-4 years of a proven producer.

This specific trade kind of heightens that divide. Not only is it Vets versus Picks, but all the veterans (except ETN) are approaching their final year or two of high value potential.

Obviously there's risk both ways. Risk that draft picks flop. And Risk that older veterans run into the wall and produce poorly. In your situation, with the 1.07 in a 1qb league and a project late '25 first as two of the picks, I'm willing to gamble on the Vets.

It would be fun to look into a crystal ball and see how this plays out. Will the vets produce, or will the picks be the clear winner. No way to know right now.
