PigeonBoys wrote: Wed May 01, 2024 8:58 am Dude what are you talking about, this is the quote I replied to,. "Yes, the NFL is giving more opportunities to smaller WR's. However, the average weight of the 2024 WR class was still 196 pounds. Xavier weighs 30 pounds less than that. To say that isn't a factor is hard for me to get on board with. It is no longer a death knoll, but he is still an outlier to NFL norms." How is that moving the goal posts? Agreeing with someone else's sentiment. I don't care what you were trying to say, I'm trying to make a point that is obviously going over your head.
And this is what you replied to that comment with

"I'll argue this one till I'm blue in the face but weight and BMI still make a difference. I am not on the Tank Dell hype train even before the Diggs trade or the shooting. I implored anyone to give me a WR that has posted a WR1 season at 165 lbs like Dell has and the closest is Devonta Smith who did it once at 170+ and has been a WR 2 since."

The discussion was not about Worthy or players of similar size becoming WR1s. It is about whether weight prevents them from transitioning their game to this level. Those are two completely different topics. Nothing you're saying is going over my head. It just isn't a part of the overall discussion.

Tank Dell was on pace for 80/1096/10 before a weird injury derailed his season. How is that a niche role? Addison had 70/911/10 as a rookie. Marquise Brown has a 1000 yard season. How are these niche players when they are getting volume and running complete route trees? Evaluating them on whether they have been WR1s before is not the same conclusion.
I feel like you are arguing semantics at this point lol. You literally said weight doesn't even matter anymore to which I very much disagreed with and then listed off a bunch of players that haven't lived up to expectations at that size. So yes it still does matter when you've got 2 WR's in the last decade plus hitting a WR1 season. We must have very different definitions of what a "hit is" and you still haven't elaborated on that element of this where what constitutes a hit especially for smaller WR's? I want to hit a WR1 especially if I am using a first rounder. If you are looking for a role player and that's it go for it man, we just see things differently. Again my main point was let's not get too carried away by saying all these small WR's are having so much success because they are not. One success does not mean much in the whole scheme of things, that just means that player was able to break the mold, still an extreme outlier nonetheless.

Off to the Tank Dell side of life, he didn't play a niche role but survived half the year in a less than FT role. Now you add in Diggs to that core and yeah I guarantee you he won't have the same ceiling as he did before the offseason kicked off when he was WR14 on KTC. Addison had a great year but again he's 175lbs, plays inside and outside and as I've said before playing on the outside like D Smith reduces the chances of taking all those hits over the middle or getting rolled up on a run play. Talked about DJax, same thing, ability play on the outside. How do you feel about Hollywood these days with that one 1K season back in 2021? I own him and I can tell you nobody wants him lol. Where are you getting all of these high volume roles for small players? There's like 2 or three guys of that size that have meaningful roles on their teams, there are far more that are on benches doing nothing. Again let's not get carried away because we've had a player at 165 lbs produce for half a season so that's apparently sufficient proof so we can ignore the last 20 years of data. We may never see eye to eye but I encourage discussions like this because it can get you and I to think differently about a situation.

I am not sure a 2024 1QB rankings is still appropriate in the 2024 rookie ranking post, due to the incorrect slim WR argument, but I will post anyways;

1.01 Marvin Harrison Jr.
1.02 Rome Odunze
1.03 Malik Nabers
1.04 Ricky Pearsall
1.05 Jonathon Brooks
1.06 Brock Bowers
1.07 Trey Benson
1.08 Ladd McConkey
1.09 Xavier Worthy
1.10 Brian Thomas Jr.
1.11 Caleb Williams
1.12 Jayden Daniels

Personally, I feel people are way too down on Ricky Pearsall. He was drafted into the ideal situation by an organization that turned the previous two recently drafted WRs, with similar draft capital, into All-Pro players.

The slim/small WR argument should not be about whether these WRs ever become WR1's, it should be about if these WRs were worth their rookie draft slot in fantasy, in their individual draft year.

Love Ricky Pearsall.

1st Round DC, likely inheriting one of the Deebo or Aiyuk roles in 2025, and on one of the most fantasy-friendly offenses in the league. Major target share concerns for year 1, it will be tough for him to carve out consistent production without one of the top guys getting moved.

He's definitely in play for me with an early 2nd I've inherited.

You gotta love it when a certified NFL baller who knows a thing or two about WR play goes to bat for him this hard too...

Here is an actual draft from a long standing league.
1 QB Full IDP ppr
QB's get 5 points passing TD's

1.01 Harrison Jr., Marvin ARI WR
1.02 Nabers, Malik NYG WR
1.03 Odunze, Rome CHI WR
1.04 Bowers, Brock LVR TE
1.05 Thomas Jr., Brian JAC WR
1.06 Williams, Caleb CHI QB
1.07 Daniels, Jayden WAS QB
1.08 Coleman, Keon BUF WR
1.09 Worthy, Xavier KCC WR
1.10 Brooks, Jonathon CAR RB
1.11 McConkey, Ladd LAC WR

Brian Thomas at 10 is laughable. Flip Pearsall for Thomas and we're almost in agreement

Apparently I can't read

Disregard please

Wouldn't touch Penix in 1 QB and probably move down McCarthy especially quite a bit. A clog of uninspiring day 2 WRs in the back end of the 2nd start to enter as well

Haha but I also agree with nearly everything here... may bump Pearsall down a spot or two and BTJ up, but that's about it.
