Good news for Stroud until Diggs starts crying.

If I'm reading it right, there's no guaranteed money beyond this season, and a post June 1st cut next year would mean only 8 million in dead cap a year for 2 years, and 4 million the 3rd year, so they aren't tied to him long term.

Wow... Not surprised. Seems they have been heading for a divorce for a couple of years

Shouldn't be any dead money for Houston. That all gets eaten by the bills. 31mm dead cap hit for the bills. Seems they are doing a little cap cleanup this season

I bet Diggs gets a new contract soon.

Overall good for the Texans & Diggs. The Bills are sooo thin at WR now.

Real world, I like the aggressiveness by Houston.

Yeah, looks like BUF will enter early in the draft for WRs. A little dicey given where that team is right now, but hope it goes well.

I bet they don't. Unless they want to push dollars. He has no guarantees left. As long as he performs, pay his salary. If he falls off, cut him with no cap hits

Yep.
I'm happy for my Stroud share.
Neutral about my Dell share

THIS.

Extending a 31 year old WR on his 3rd team who had issues with his 2 other stops, isn't smart. Especially when he has an existing contract from a recent extension that pays him very well. I don't believe Caserio will do this. Collins will get an extension before Diggs does, IMO.

I didn't realize he still has like three years on his existing contract. Still think there's a chance he gets a new deal though.

Diggs was a major plus when he arrived in Buffalo, and can be the same in Houston. In three or four years he'll be a pain again.

I'm with FF and 81 on this. Diggs pretty much fell off a cliff over the 2nd half of 2023, and he's 31 in November. 3 or 4 years from now? Diggs will likely be out of the league. I don't have any expectation that he's going to be dominant in Houston.

The Bills had seen enough, wanted out, and found a deal to make that happen. We'll see what the Bills do in the draft, but I think this could funnel more targets to Kincaid.

I don't think you shell out the draft capital the Texans did to just let him go after a year. That wouldn't be smart. They probably extend him because otherwise, they just paid draft picks for nothing.

Agreed on the idea it's not the plan for him to be a 1 year rental. They moved a likely backhalf 2nd for him. They CAN move off him, if they have to though, in the event he becomes a locker room poison or something, and it's to the point where it's better to eat the lost pick than to keep him around.

They have the option if worst case scenario comes into play, to move off him without too much cap damage.

They also don't need to extend him, he's under contract through 2027. So in best case scenario, he's already locked in long term.

It gives the Texans flexibility for either scenario. They know the costs of best case, and worst case scenario.
