News is that Jefferson turned down a 4 year, 32 mil a year contract from the Vikings. Some numbers for reference for a size of an extension for a player like Jefferson- Biggest WR contract is Tyreek's 30 mil a year, biggest non qb contract is Nick Bosa 34 mil a year.

Seems like Vikings wanted to split the difference and make him highest paid WR, JJ wanted the new highest non qb contract.

Vikings GM I think is trying to play Moneyball (based on PFF grades vs money on his defensive FA signings), and I did NOT realize just how stinking cheap the WR franchise tag was.

2024 WR tag- only 22mil, 2025 is projected to be 25.5 mil, add 20% to that for a 2nd tag and it's still only 30.6 mil for 2026

I'm sure they're well aware of the price of the franchise tag. The downside of that is that players generally prefer a contract over playing on the tag. I think JJ wants a contract and to be paid his market value, so being franchised would hurt the relationship.
