Gap between Tyreek and JSN?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Gap between Tyreek and JSN?

Postby Mr. Wizard » Tue Feb 13, 2024 10:27 am

I’ve got Tyreek in a salary cap league and need to shed some money this offseason. A leaguemate is offering me JSN+ for him. Tyreek is not the guy I would most like to trade away, but if the offer is right, I’d consider it.

What is reasonable to ask for on top of JSN, do you think? Or would you simply not make the trade at all and ride Tyreek until the wheels fall off?

At least a 1st or equivalent player. I loved JSN as a prospect, and still have very high hopes, but seeing a few threads around here he's being valued as a late 1st or early 2nd.

Tough if salary cap league (not my thing). Regular SF league I'd want a 1st plus as Tyreek shows no sign of slowing down and probably good for another 2 years of elite which he is top 3.
JSN is good and maybe a lot better if Lockett gets the boot but QB situation in flux (even more than Miami) and the HC and OC are complete unknowns.

If you are competing I'd stick with Tyreek. But I am also an idiot

I'd just tell him to make an offer. If he starts out with JSN+5th you know there prob isn't a deal to be had. If he offers JSN+2nd, I'd be pretty tempted but likely send a counter with a bit more. If it's a 1st on top id jump all over it.

In salary cap i think it really depends on the cap hit + years.

Normal league i would want JSN + mid firsts as others have said, but in a salary cap, if tyreek is like 50 and JSN is 2, a one for one might be more plausible.

It IS a big gap (real life salary cap, so around 240m, Tyreek is 30m and JSN is like 6m) but if the only reason to do it is money, I think I can find money elsewhere. It’s more a question of if JSN is attractive enough of a piece to be worth exploring in the first place.

Interesting, this makes it a lot closer tbh. I hear you on if it’s for salary cap issues you can go somewhere else, but I guess what can you do with that extra 24M? It’s not a hill for JSN, it’s hill for JSN + whatever you can do with that cap. It will be a production bit this year for sure imo, maybe starting next year it will be close to the same production. So can your team get by without it? If the answer is no, then you gotta keep hill. If it is yes, I would look at what you think you can do with the added flexibility

I am a JSN guy, so yes I think he is interesting enough. Tough to give advise in a salary cap "bubble," but even at his higher age and advanced cost, he is considerably more valuable than JSN. I would play hard to get on this and see if he offers a sweetheart deal

I am presently over the cap, so this year it’s more a game of just getting under the cap, though in future years the spare money could help add. I have several expensive veterans — Hill, Kupp, Henry, Saquon, Kamara — and shedding one of them is the way to go. Obviously Hill is the most valuable of those names but also the most likely to fetch something of note. It’s probably either move Hill for something good or move one of the others for hopefully, maybe, a 2nd or something if I can get a nibble. So, that’s the consideration.

This is gonna be a bit of a “taking my medicine” situation to a certain degree, but I pushed all in and won the championship so it’s palatable.

Yeah, your team is old and not getting younger. I would probably go all in to shave salary and age if I was in your shoes.

I’ll be moving at least one of these guys, though I probably won’t sell for pennies on the dollar — I’ve made a living off of the overpriced old dudes who everyone is eager to dump but still produce. One’s gotta go, though. Probably Kamara if I have my druthers, banking on a healthier Kupp season and an appealing Henry landing spot, but whoever someone wants.
