After DKs blowup game I have the AJ Brown owner mulling a trade. Not a huge on giving up a first especially since he approached me but I have a feeling that’s where he’s gonna start. What does everyone think the gap is here?

Whether you like it or not, the gap is a 1st as it stands today and it's entirely due to QB play IMO. AJB is tied to Jalen for the foreseeable future, whereas DK is tied to Geno for maybe 1-2 years and unknown after that. They are very similar in terms of talent IMO, both big bodied guy who rack up YAC but in order to get consistency, you'll have to give up a 1st most likely.

The gap is at least a 1st for me.

If I had DK and wanted AJB, I’d give a 2nd on top. A 1st is too much imo

From a buyer's perspective, I can understand this. From a seller's perspective, I don't see the value of trading away AJB for DK+2nd, especially if the 2nd is later.

This may be a case of no-happy-medium.

AJB has been a much more productive player than DK and age is basically irrelevant. He also has a better QB situation. I feel like DK is one of those fantasy WR that perception is valued higher than production, but that may just be me.

A 1st sounds right. Probably a mid-first or higher. AJ Brown has been a much better player as a pro.

Right, it’s basically a no deal on both sides. Selling you want a 1, and buying you want to give a 2. Just my opinion anyway

Even after Metcalf's blowup game and AJB's relative slump, AJB is still WR6 in PPG vs Metcalf at WR19. Last season through week 17, WR7 vs WR23. 4.5-5 ppg difference in both seasons. They're 6 months apart in age, same draft class, similar draft capital. I suppose Metcalf has potential future upside of getting a better QB but Geno was solid last year (QB8 in PPG) and Metcalf was barely a WR2.

I think the gap is significantly larger than a late 1st, and if you're a contender you should be tripping over yourself to trade Metcalf + your own 1st to get AJB, but I doubt many AJB owners would take that deal.

100%

And I love DK, but this is just reality.

this is why picks aren't a great way to close gaps IMO. Their level of variance is too great to measure. I would trade AJB for DK + 2nd + and a player like Michael Wilson or Rashee Rice. I generally don't trade for players at their peak. I generally always trade down. For example if I had Metcalf I would prefer to trade for Tee Higgins + than trade Metcalf + for AJB.

I get it, but whenever I’m loading up to get 1 asset back I always ask myself if this player gets injured (let’s say acl) is this still a good deal. Or, doesn’t have to be a good deal but is it still a fair enough deal. And in this case, since I’d argue they’re similarly talented and similar in age, it’d be a really bad deal if AJb tore his acl next week.
