Superflex TEP Question—Two Picks in Top Four

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Superflex TEP Question—Two Picks in Top Four

Postby wickerkat1212 » Sun Nov 26, 2023 2:39 pm

WAY TOO EARLY, I KNOW.

So an orphan team I adopted last year looks to have two early picks next year.
12-man, 1 ppr, TEP (2 PPR) we start qb-rb-rb-wr-wr-wr-te-superflex-flex-flex.
Right now, I'd get the 1.02 and the 1.04. Also have the 2.02.

Since the consensus so far is that these are the top four

Williams
Maye
Harrison
Bowers

Based on my roster, who would you take right now at 2, anticipating who will be there at 4?
Do I have to take a QB with this team? (Starters in bold, assume they're all healthy.)

I really want Harrison, so the ideal draft for me would be 1.02 MHJ and 1.04 Bowers.
But do I need to go Williams/Maye at 1.02 and then Bowers at 1.04?
Could there be a QB at 2.02 worth taking? IDK.

Cousins, Kirk MIN QB (I) 175.74 13

It's just way too early ha ha. I get the TEP, but TEs bust all the time in fantasy so no chance I take a TE with the 1.02 in any format. Williams and Harrison Jr.

I may not get Williams and Harrison.

Williams probably goes 1.01.
That leaves me with Maye or Harrison at 1.02.
I'd take Harrison there.
Maye probably goes 1.03
That leaves Bowers at 1.04 in a 2 PPR TEP league.

Thoughts?

Too early, yes. But based on what we know today I think you have the right four players. Bowers' value in a 2 PPR TEP is off the chart. I'd argue he's worth more than MHJR in that format. But I'm sure that would be a minority POV and not worth debating here.

I'd be happy to get any two of those players in this format. And given your QB situation, I'd even be cool getting both of the QBs. I wouldn't reach on the WR2 (Nabers?) and leave Maye for the team at 1.05.

QB with 1.02

If MHJr is not available at 1.04, I would try to trade down and get with two 1sts, or a 1st and a player, or one '24 1st and one '25 1st.

I just can't convince myself to take a TE with a premium pick like this. Not even in TEP should a TE be a T4 pick.
TEAM 1:
12 Team ppr w/20 keepers - start 1QB 2RB 3WR 1TE 1FLX 6IDP 1DEF
QB: Tua, Lamar, Levis
RB: Etienne, Pacheco, JavonteWms, JFord, CEH
WR: Lamb, JChase, Waddle, Pickens, MWilliams, Q Johnston
TE: Goedert, Friermuth
DEF: Cowboys, Ravens
IDP:(LB) Bolton, Greenlaw; (DE/DL) ZCollins, BJHill; (S/CB) Pitre, Bates, Witherspoon
2023 & 2022 Champion: 2020 third place: 2019 Champion

TEAM 2:
14 Team 30roster SF/ppr/TEP - QB/RB/WR/TE/5FLX/SF
QB: Tua, CJStroud, Carr, AOC, MWhite, Lock
RB: Etienne, Stevenson, GusE, AJD, Singletary, CEH, Spiller
WR: Amon-Ra, Kirk, Dell, Thielen, Gallup, Ch Jones
TE: Andrews, Waller, Taysom, Smythe, WMallory, JOliver

Lots of great advice here. I got burned on Pitts (I know, it's too early) but I think if he went to the right situation where I felt he'd get the love he deserved I'd have a hard time passing on him at 1.04 with 2 PPR TEP.

The other question I guess is whether you think ANY QB worth drafting would be there at 2.02. I kind of doubt it. Levis went in the 2nd round in our league last year, but not sure how deep this class is.

Williams
Maye
Nix
Daniels
Penix
Sanders

It's hard to argue with that POV. The history is fairly strongly in favor of avoiding TE early (maybe anywhere in the first round) in rookie drafts.

I'm out on a limb on Bowers. If he lands in a situation where he is likely to be the #2 target option on this team, I'm all in. Positional scarcity and his talent are enough for me to take the calculated risk. I get why this is a contrarian POV. And I think there's little doubt that what we saw with Pitts is going to scare folks away.

I think there definitely will be. I'm guessing four maybe five QBs go in the NFL first round. One of them should slip to the 2.02. I'd argue that any QB who goes in the NFL first round is worth an early 2nd in SF. Or maybe you're implying that in your league all five of those guys would go in the first. And if five QBs go in the first, you'll get a great player at 2.02.

Another approach is to offer up the 2.02 during draft season for a current QB. I bet someone would want to cash out and take another swing. Rookie fever is powerful. We'll know so much more about the landscape after the rest of this season and NFL FA.

It’s not out of the question for you to be able to maybe move 1.04+2.02 to move up to the 1.03. Especially if the 1.03 owner has those guys similarly ranked. Then you get two of your top three. Might be worth it even if you have to add a little more.

BTW, I don't think yours is the contrarian view. I think most of dynasty, especially TEP dynasty has Bowers in their Top 4.

Take the top two available from your draft list when you are on the clock. Worry about your specific roster later.
