Tee Higgins

Postby slaughterrt » Mon Sep 25, 2023 5:36 pm

Couldn’t find a Tee thread, so I figure I’ll ask in here. I was reading another forum that got me thinking…

Tee likely isn’t going to be with Cinci next year. Between Joe Burrow’s contract and Jamar Chase getting paid sooner than later, the Bengals probably won’t pay up for two big-money WRs. This probably doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone. I know I’m staying the obvious here, but bear with me…

With the way the Bengals have started off this year, and with Joe Burrow ailing and that offense not really firing on all cylinders…do they try to move Tee this year and cash out? It certainly doesn’t look like the Bengals year, and instead of letting him walk for nothing, do they look to trade him to a WR needy team that will trade and extend his contract?

Just spitballing here…but it got me thinking.

Way too early to be thinking about this. The Bengals see themselves as Super Bowl contenders, and there’s still a lot of season to go.
12 Team Superflex - PPR, 0.25 PPC - QB/2RB/3WR/TE/Flex/Superflex
QB: L Jackson, Tagovailoa, Rodgers, Pickett, Tannehill

Yeah, maybe it is early in the season. But realistically, if they fall to 0-3 tonight, the odds are very long that they will reach the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl. If you think the Bengals are able to retain Tee and extend his contract, that’s fine. But if the Bengals are at the bottom of their division…you gotta at least entertain the idea, no? Instead of a wasted year and letting Tee go for absolutely nothing.

Since 1979, only 6 teams have overcome an 0-3 start to make the playoffs. Think about that for a minute.

The others are all writing you off, but I'll humour you: the odds of this (albiet still small) are absolutely climbing with every Cincinatti loss.

They're still low odds. I think you'd realistically need Burrow shut down + close to statistical elimination before they do it. Or, you'd need Tee himself to ask out / completely quiet-quit on the season.

With other high-profile WR's far more likely to demand a move first, he's not going to be the first guy in line. But I could absolutely see this becoming more of a real conversation once we're closer to the trade deadline if the Bengals keep trending this poor.

This is why I tried to grab C Jones and Iosivas wherever I could… both Boyd (very likely) and Tee (probably less than 50% chance) could be gone next year, and Mixon also.

If they fall out of contention I could see them trading one of them, probably Tee because he has life beyond his current contract.

The likelihood of Higgins being tagged has to be quite high.

I don’t think it’s completely out of the question if the Bengals end up far out of contention by the deadline, but not very likely. I think both sides will try to work it out, but I think the more likely scenario is 1.) he gets tagged, or 2.) he just signs elsewhere once it becomes clearly Cincy can give him what he’s looking for

I can't imagine Cincy would trade Higgins unless they finally give up on the season, which I guess is in the cards now that they are 1-3 with Burrow hobbled.

I'm guessing they'd like to see Burrow & Higgins healthy to see if the offense turns it around following their week 7 bye. That wouldn't yield much time before the trade deadline.

I'd still say it's unlikely considering the lack of draft capital in CAR, but remains an unlikely possibility. More like I think CAR kicks the tires on someone like Jeudy or Sutton.
