When to pop the cork on elite 3 down LBs in IDP startup?

Postby zaner75 » Fri Jun 23, 2023 9:17 pm

24 team PPR 1QB - start 8/9 (offense/defense). Picking 15(in odd rounds)/10(even). No trades in startup.
My team so far: St. Brown, Waddle, Goedert. Coming up to my pick in round 4 (82 overall). Oluokon, Roquan Smith and Bolton are still on the board. All scored over 330 points last season with overall finishes of 5, 11 and 15. Is taking one of them a better move over a skill position?
Haven't been in an IDP startup for over a decade. Is an elite 3 down LB a foundational piece? I had planned on fading elite IDP but is the production enough to warrant the selection before offensive skill position starters?
The top RB I'm considering is Rachaad White. Others available are A Jones, Montgomery, J Williams. Top WRs I'm considering are Aiyuk, Godwin, D Johnson, M Brown. Others available are K Allen, Hopkins, M Williams.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Too soon IMO - give me Aiyuk, Godwin, Hollywood, Aaron Jones all over any LB

I don’t want a top 5 LB in the 4th or 5th round, when I can grab Shaq Thompson in the 14th round

24 teams single copy? i wouldn't touch an IDP before i had filled my offensive starting lineup. with all those teams, i MIGHT consider a top IDP option in round 7-8, since the offensive talent might be depleted at that point. but i'd be happy to let others overdraft IDPs and let offense slip.

get a QB!

Thanks for the input. My general strategy was to try go 10-12 rounds of offense before touching IDP.
Ended up drafting Aiyuk at 4.10. There were 4 picks in front of me when I posted this thread. They went R White, Addison, M Brown, A Jones, so sometimes things just work out.
A few IDP have been taken already, and a lot of QBs. Including myself, there are 8 teams that have not taken a QB yet. 2 teams have taken a backup QB, which I find interesting, but I guess league size dictates positional scarcity.

i play in a 20 teams league, QBs are very valuable, they go early in drafts (lawrence and lance were 1.01 and 1.02) and command good compensations in a trade. having 2 definitely allows for some flexibility. i guess the other side of the argument, with 24 instead of 20, is that other positions will get thinner earlier.
