Zay Flowers official thread
Didn’t see a thread on him (apologize if there is one already)… what do we say about him?
3rd WR drafted, smallish in size, but fast. Drafted into a place with a pretty wide-open depth chart (OJB is pretty suspect at this point and Bateman tested well but has been seriously injured) and an offense that wants to pass more. If Hollywood could put up top20.l numbers in this offense why can’t Zay?

Re: Zay Flowers official thread
Big fan of Zay. Depth chart doesn't concern me. Plus, think the new offense won't turn the WR corps into a cage match where only 1 WR is productive.

Bateman is the WR to own in that room for me, though his health could get in the way.

The easy answer: Because Zay is not as good as Hollywood.Shcritters wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2023 8:30 pm If Hollywood could put up top20.l numbers in this offense why can’t Zay?
To take a more positive spin: Zay won't be operating in the same offense as Hollywood. Hollywood played in a very run-first offense with no other good WRs. Zay will play in what is being advertised as a pass-heavy offense, but will be surrounded with other good WRs.
My take: Whether Zay ends up being a dependable WR2 or not, I don't think we'll get the real answer in 2023. I predict it will be 2024 before Zay gets a chance to maybe attract the target share necessary to be a productive fantasy asset.
If I had him, I'd be very happy to hold him. If I was looking to add him, I wouldn't give up a 1st to acquire him unless I was certain is was 1.10 or worse in 1qb, or 2.01 or worse in SF.

Re: Zay Flowers official thread
A pass happy offense with Jackson seems stupid. When the the rubber meets the road…the Ravens will go back to having Jackson run the ball and pepper Andrews a million times per game…because that is what Jackson does well.Anteaters wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 6:19 amThe easy answer: Because Zay is not as good as Hollywood.Shcritters wrote: ↑Sun Jun 18, 2023 8:30 pm If Hollywood could put up top20.l numbers in this offense why can’t Zay?

Re: Zay Flowers official thread
I really like the talent, but I think the play is to just buy low next offseason.
Re: Zay Flowers official thread
I think Jackson will be very good in a pass-heavy offense. I put his over/under at 4500yds, and can see a clear pathway to a 5000yd season.
4500 may seem like a lot, but it's averaging 260yds/gm. Jackson averaged 260yds/gm in 2021 (discount the partial game where he got injured and had only 4 passes) in the old offense. If this new offense lets Lamar cook, he'll blow past 5000 yards like nothing. If that happens, at least one receiver besides Andrews is going to have a fine fantasy season.
I think the yards will be there from Jackson. I'm almost certain Zay is not ready to be the receiver to step up and claim a co-leading role as a rookie.

Habaneros make the best hot sauce. Throwing a bunch of random stuff on top of fries doesn't mean you call it "poutine".

Re: Zay Flowers official thread
I don't think we know that. All we know is that Greg Roman ran the type of offenses that the Ravens like to run.
Lamar in a pass happy offense could actually be good. He has the weapons now to be a point guard and distribute to some very good route runners. This would also give him better opportunities for big plays as a runner. You can't stack the box or put a spy on Lamar with Andrews, Bateman, Flowers and Beckham on the field together.
I think Lamar is going to have a career year. Todd Monken offenses are a thing of beauty.
I don't know how much Flowers puts up this season, but long-term he could definitely become a thing. I think starting him out in the slot this year could be a big mismatch for teams.

Why not? Even if all those guys manage to stay healthy, which is far from a sure thing for at least two of them (not to mention Lamar himself), who outside of Andrews is scaring opposing defenses at this point in their career?Cameron Giles wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 8:08 am You can't stack the box or put a spy on Lamar with Andrews, Bateman, Flowers and Beckham on the field together.
Andrews - Just came off the worst YPT of his career. While he’s good, not sure he’s elite or just a very good player propped up by a very TE friendly system under Roman.
Bateman - Has been repeatedly derailed by injuries and isn’t currently healthy. He also graded out at a 61.6 on PFF in his limited work last year.
Flowers - I like him a lot, but he’s a rookie coming out of Boston College. There is going to be a transition here more likely than not. He may be pushed out by Agholor in the early part of the season.
Beckham - Hasn’t had a productive years in three years and even then wasn’t exactly lighting the world on fire. Has been off for a full year with an injury and is 30 years old. Does he still have it? Can he stay healthy?
I think you’re assuming upside reached in most cases here if you look at this receiving corps and think they’re scaring people.
