Please discuss in the thread belowOnce a UFA contract bidding hits a specific threshold it automatically triggers a multi year contract (2 or more years) requirement.
As it stands currently, and is being played out in real time, contract bidding gets out of control because people can essentially bid ~40+% of the entire cap on one player because there is no downside on a 1 year contract. This in turn throws franchise tag numbers out of wack as well.
We then do the exact same thing every year in FA, round and round we go. If someone knew they were on the hook for these insane contracts for more than just 1 year it would give pause and make contracts more realistic relative to the cap IMO.

Rule Change Discussion - Automatic 2nd Year Trigger

Re: Rule Change Discussion - Automatic 2nd Year Trigger
I understand where this is coming from, but I guess I'm in favor of freedom for owners to run their team how they want. While it definitely has happened, there are serious negative consequences to bidding 50k on single player, and I think it's backfired more than its helped teams make deep playoff runs or win championships. It kills your depth and your ability to maneuver.
And in the end, if I'm going all-in to win this year, a 10k cap hit next year doesn't really scare me.
