New LB/DL designations

Postby saw061600 » Fri Mar 10, 2023 4:02 pm

Crazy stuff. Some teams in my leagues have lost 1/2 their rostered LBs with the new position standards.
Anyone else seeing that drastic change?
Any league considering adjusting IDP starting requirements? Maybe move from 2 DL 3LB 2DB to 2-2-2 1 flex?

I have never played in a league where the start req. are set without flex options. As long as the scoring is the same across positions.

Changing to a flex makes sense to me because teams are then unaffected by the changes, if they were rostering OLBs (as LBs) then they can still play those options.

We do 2-2-2 and 2 flex in most of my leagues. With same scoring across all positions. Easiest solution.

Our starting requirements:

DEFENSE - 11 players

DL - MIN 3, MAX 4 (Start Min 1DT and Min 1 DE)

LB - MIN 2, MAX 4

DB - MIN 4, MAX 6 (Start Min 2, Max 3 CB; Start Min 2, Max 3 S)

So this change is pretty seamless for us and should improve DE and DT scoring/availability while holding LB scoring pretty stable.

My large leagues are 1 DT - 2 DE - 3 LB - 2 CB - 2 S - 1 Flex. The shift has had a big impact.

Changing starting requirements is a tough move for established leagues. Such is why the massive shift is unfavorable for established leagues.

Was going to join another start-up with these requirements, but am really second guessing it. I much prefer positional requirements to flex spots to add to league dynamic and strategy. Just unsure if the new positions truly support the requirement. It’s a tough fill at LB. Values have skyrocketed. The new normal though I suppose. That LB3 will be a dogs breakfast on bye weeks.

I understand where you are coming from - all of my leagues are 15 or more years old.
But, let's say mfl and the other sites add the Edge position?
Do you think your league would too?
I know my leaguemates are already clamoring for it. But nothing I can do about it. I'm sure not going to add more de slots because of this recent position change. Luckily, we have enough flex slots and only require 2 starting lbs, so won't be affected much. And there will be less complaining about the starting dl requirements if we have more of them getting decent points.

Good luck! We can only just keep flowing with the tide.

I would love MFL to add an edge position. Too much value change the lat couple years. We’re 1-2DT, 2DE, 3-4 LB, 2-3CB, 2-3 S

mfl is doing the worst thing possible IMO. They are straddling the fence by classifying players by the position they actually play on the field but then failing to go all the way and define an Edge position. Starting the solution and then failing to complete the transition is sure to maximize how many. customers you anger. Why didn’t they switch their positions to DL/Edge/LB/S/CB (oh and announce late last year that they were doing this)?
