Isaiah Pacheco
Re: Isaiah Pacheco
Looked rusty & indecisive or overcompensating for his being called over aggressive in his running style last year. Pretty much the whole KC offense wasn’t looking like a well oiled machine as if they hadn’t spent a lot of time working together in preseason game action. Like this was the dress rehearsal.
I expect this will be the case for a lot of teams nowadays. Lots of guys getting zero or next to it live game speed action in camp. It’s going to show up here & there Expect Pacheco to take these next 10 days along with the rest of the team to learn from it. Certainly expect better performances are ahead in the near future even if there’s no Kelce. ( which may benefit Pacheco’s usage)

I’d place a bet that the entire Chiefs offense doesn’t look that bad the rest of the season. Using one of the worst Chiefs offensive performances of the past few years to extrapolate on the future seems foolish. There will be plenty of better games ahead.Ice wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 5:38 am 8 Carries 23 yards

Some of his owners and fans will make plenty of excuses but the reality is, he played terrible. He looked really slow and indecisive on his runs.
He is in a RBBC with CEH who was not any better or worse with his 6 carries for 22 yards and 1 reception for 7 yards.
The only legitimate excuse; the Chiefs told the Lions every play if they were running based how the tackles lined up. The tape doesn't lie an that line coach is terrible. Pretty basic stuff in football.

Foolish? I was commenting on their running game itself Thursday. It is or should be obvious to all the Chiefs have a lot to clean up in the running game, the O Line, and don't even get me started on their WR play.
We all know they have a very good HC and one of the best QB's and TE's to ever to put on a uniform; Of Course we will see better games ahead.

Re: Isaiah Pacheco
I think the missile thing was working for him. I still don’t think his vision is any good, but he was big, fast and decisive and in an offense that keeps its opponents on their heels and worried about the passing game it was really working. Sure, he missed the holes some, but often the holes were so big it didn’t matter and sometimes he hit the line with enough speed and power to make a hole for himself. If he loses that aggression and gives defenses time to think, I’m not sure he’ll be as effective.Bronco Billy wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 4:05 am I liked the way he played. Now he looks like a RB instead of a guided missile. He was definitely a plus in the passing game too. He’s come a long way in a year. He certainly changed my opinion of him.

Re: Isaiah Pacheco
Been quiet here for a while, so thought I'd bring it back up.
Last night Pacheco was the only thing that went well for the Chiefs. 20/26 RB carries, and 3/4 RB targets for the game. McKinnon will always be a thorn in his side for the RZ when they are going to throw, but CEH is clearly just a backup at this point and Pacheco is gaining playing time in passing situations.
I don't want to call this a 'breakout game' - I think 'workhorse game' would be more appropriate for what happened last night - but this was a good sign for him. He was regularly ripping off 5-6 yards per carry, and if he can keep getting 3-4 receptions a game he's high RB2/low RB1 range.

Re: Isaiah Pacheco
I expected a good game, given the opponent. The game script was going to be in his favor and they were up 17-0 in the blink of an eye. He broke off that long run which was great to see and boosted his night even more. Moving forward, he's an RB2 (still) and I will probably struggle to keep him out of lineups against bad teams and especially since byes are coming.Shcritters wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 7:34 am Been quiet here for a while, so thought I'd bring it back up.

I think he's running with a little more patience, but the same aggressiveness he's always had. The contact balance was impressive on a few runs last night.
Re: Isaiah Pacheco
It’s almost like with some game experience, film study and much better coaching than @ Rutgers a player becomes more well rounded dare I say a valuable asset in a great situation . If he stays healthy do you think he can get even better / more consistent to have games like last night vs a good Jets defense ?

Re: Isaiah Pacheco
Don't look now but he's catching TD passes. The one from Sunday would have historically been McKinnon's... not a great day on the ground, but 4 catches and a TD led to 16 PPR points.
Currently sitting at RB9. Some players will rise (Hall, JT) pushing him closer to that RB1/RB2 cutoff, but hey... the upward journey continues.

He's been a steal this year. I'm starting to wonder if he has long term staying power in KC. I know, no RB has Long term value, especially not a day 3 guy, but they are giving him plenty of workShcritters wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 10:34 am Don't look now but he's catching TD passes. Re: Isaiah Pacheco
Yep, he’s been better than I expected this year. My only hesitation is that he’s still playing low to mid ~50% snap share on the year. He has hit 60% 3 of 7 games though with a high of 63%. As long as he keeps getting the ball at a steady rate when he’s in there (which indications seem to be he will), he should be fine.Jigga94 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2023 11:23 amHe's been a steal this year. Re: Isaiah Pacheco
Whoever the pass-catcher in KC is is the back to own there... and that was the knock against him last year. This year he's on track for ~50 catches. If he can do that along with the majority of the rushing work he'll be a back-end RB1/high-end RB2 this year.
Next year - they've got to bring someone in because McKinnon will be 32 and CEH is headed out of town... but for this year 'wheels up'!

Nice to see a RB grow and reinvent himself, and Pacheco has done a great job of it. Happy to say I was wrong with my initial opinions pre-draft of him.

Players can get better with coaching & experience. Maybe that's what they're seeing in the building so they didn't feel need to draft or sign a RB ... Yet !
