This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

anatomy of my rookie draft

Postby vixen » Fri Jun 10, 2022 9:31 pm

this is a one QB ppr league. it is team 1 below

I started with 3.08, 3.09, 4.01, 4.11, 5.08, 6.08

I traded 3.08, 3.09 for 3.02(pick otc) and 4.07

3.02. Wan'Dale -imo, there was a drop off after Robinson, my team could use another WR, so I moved up
4.01. Jelani Woods -I was thinking Justyn Ross or Jelani, Ross went at 3.12. not TE premium league, but worth a shot
4.07. Austin III -well, who knows. I guess I like small WRs this season
4.11. Kyren -another probably too small NFL player. but figured he was worth a shot here
traded a 2023 5th for pick 5.02
5.02. Jerome Ford -I like him, but D'Ernest signing may have hurt
5.08. Kevin Harris -I almost took him last time. but probably more more 2023.

the trade partner drafted Doubs and Velus Jones with 3.08 and 3.09

this is one of the first times I drafted in a league without a first or a second round pick. (used them for Ekeler and Brady (Watson owner) last season).
to be honest, I didn't really like not having a 1st or 2nd round pick. not sure I would do that again..lol
I had a few opportunities to move into the first round to draft someone like Skyy, Watson, Olave range but I feel this team could go either way this season and wanted to hang onto my 2023 1st. would you have moved the 23 first for one of those players?
anyway. would love to hear some of your drafts without a first or ones that you traded a first during the draft.
team 1 -start QB RB 2WR TE 2RB/WR 1WR/TE
qbs=5pt tds wr/te=1 ppr rbs=.5ppr all get .25ppc
Watson, Brady, Mills
Ekeler, Hunt, Carson/Penny, DForeman, Mitchell, CPat, Kyren, Ford, KHarris
Cooper, sutton, Chase, Shepard, Atwell, Schwartz, Wan'Dale, Austin III
Gesicki, Engram, Hooper, Woods
team 2 -start QB 2RB 3WR TE 2Flex K D
Cousins, Stafford
DH JT, Ekeler, Kylin Hill, Herbert, KHarris, Chandler
Hopkins, Diggs, Adams, Godwin, McLaurin, Callaway, DPJ, Robby Anderson, Schwartz, Pierce, Wan'Dale, Doubs
Kelce, Andrews, Jacob Harris

Because I have an hour wait for my daughter’s ballet rehearsal, I’ll play.

16 team superflex league with IDP. I won the league last year, with an aging team (outside of my QBs).
Notable players that were on my roster last year:
Herbert/Murray
Chubb/D Henderson/Carson
Thielen/McLaurin/Julio/MT/Treadwell
Gronk/Ertz
Some solid IDP
I traded some draft capital to solidify my win-now strategy and it paid off.
2022 picks I had - my 2nd, a mid 3rd, my 5th

After the successful season, I decided I needed to get ahead and blow up my team. I was getting old and didn’t expect to be able to repeat.

So…
I trade away Julio and Chris Carson for two 2022 2nds.

I trade away MT and Toney for a 2022 2nd and a 2023 2nd.

I trade away D Henderson and Hunter Henry for 2.6+2.9.

I trade away Chubb and TJ Watt (balanced IDP scoring) for 2.13+2.15+2023 1st+2023 1st.

I traded away Ertz for 3.15+4.3.

I traded away Gronk+2023 3rd for 4.5+4.15.

I traded away some aging IDP fodder for 4.9+4.12+4.15.

I traded away Markus Golden (LB) for 5.2+5.5.

I traded away a DT for 5.13 + 5.15.

Long story short…I went into the offseason with the 2.16 as my top pick and sold out to get picks galore.

Here are my draft results:

2.2 - Dotson, WR, WAS
2.4 - Pickens, WR, PIT
2.6 - Tolbert, WR, DAL
2.9 - Corral, QB, CAR
2.12 - Pierce, WR, IND
2.13 - Allgeier, RB, ATL
2.15 - Ingram, RB, ARI
2.16 - Thornton, WR, NE
3.4 - Davis-Price, RB, SF
3.15 - Robinson, WR, NYG
4.3 - Anderson, LB, ATL
4.5 - Ferguson, TE, DAL
4.9 - Williams, Edge, DAL
4.12 - Chenal, LB, KC
4.15 - Hill, DB, CIN
5.2 - Strong, RB, NE
5.5 - Williams, RB, LAR
5.12 - Wyatt, DT. GB
5.13 - Kolar, TE, BAL
5.15 - Jones Jr, WR, CHI
5.16 - Philips, WR, TEN

Also came out with 2023 1st (x3), 2nd (x2), 4th, 5th.

My team is definitely gonna be rough this year but I’m hoping to push through, grab some more 2023 picks and see how the full rebuild goes. Also still have guys like Thielen, McLaurin, Marlon Mack, Jamison Crowder, and IDP that should be able to be dealt in-season.

Basically all I have left are my QBs, a bunch of rookies, and picks picks picks for 2023.

Haha yep. We have 40 roster spots between active and bench spots. I’m sure some will get cut for WW options. Some will get traded for future picks as soon as they produce. Prob only a handful will still be on my roster in a year or two. But hell. Wheeling and dealing is the best part of a rebuild.

And since I didn’t have any firsts, I figured I would go with “quantity over quality.”

I'll play.
20 team 1 QB PPR IDP league. I traded away all of my 2022 draft capital, and two 2023 1st round picks.

First, I traded away Zach Wilson for Christian Kirk + 2022 pick 1.11.
Next, I traded away Courtland Sutton, Mike Williams, Dalton Schultz, Budda Baker + my picks, 1.15 and 2.15 for Mark Andrews and 1.05.
Then I traded away the 2022 1.05 + my 2023 1st round pick (expect to be in the 1.16-1.20 range) for CeeDee Lamb
Then I traded away Pat Friermuth for Chase Claypool.
Then I traded away Gabriel Davis and Curtis Samuel for Rashod Bateman.
Then I trade away Bateman, Claypool, + Divine Deablo for Tee Higgins.
Then I trade away the 2022 1.11 Pick for 2022 pick 2.10 + a 2023 1st round pick (expect to be in the 1.08-1.15 range).
Then I traded away that 2023 1st round pick that I just acquired for Mike Evans (rebuilding team).
Then I traded away Mike Evans + D'Ernest Johnson to the Chubb owner for Michael Pittman.
Then I traded away my 2.10 2022 pick for an early 2023 2nd round pick.

The Draft was only 2 rounds, 40 players, but I had 0 picks now.
After the draft was over I grabbed Greg Dulcich, Isaih Pacheco, and Jaquan Brisker as free agents.

So, my 6th place team from 2021 has been transformed from:

QB: Kyler Murray
RB: Jonathan Taylor
WR: DJ Moore
WR: Mike Williams
TE: Dalton Schultz
Flex: Courtland Sutton
Flex: Pat Freiermuth
DL: Sam Hubbard
DL: Harold Landry
LB: Roquan Smith
LB: Bobby Okereke
DB: Budda Baker
DB: Vonn Bell
IDP Flex: Kyle Dugger

The 2022 version:

QB: Kyler Murray
RB: Jonathan Taylor
WR: CeeDee Lamb
WR: Tee Higgins
TE: Mark Andrews
Flex: DJ Moore
Flex: Michael Pittman
DL: Sam Hubbard
DL: Harold Landry
LB: Roquan Smith
LB: Bobby Okereke
DB: Vonn Bell
DB: Kyle Dugger
IDP Flex: Odafe Oweh/Za'Darius Smith

This is now a team that can win it all in 2022 with a little luck.

Outside of the 2021 draft, I have had a 1st or a 2nd for as long as I can remember. In 2021, I only had a late 5th and took Mond. Nothing exciting there and I look forward to more breakdowns from others here.

OP, you were able to land some solid value and upside players based on the pucks you had. I could have justified trading in for Olave, but it would have been dependent on price and where your 2023 1st is likely to fall.
