For sure. It's also the proliferation of the short game - it's not just that teams are throwing more as a percentage compared to run - it's that they're outright replacing Running as their default method for moving the ball in short-yardage situations.

The idea of a WR going over the middle 200+ times in a season would have been straight lunacy as little as 20-25 years ago. Now we've got Cooper Kupp getting 196 targets with an aDOT of 8 yards, and turning it into a 1947 yard season. (To say nothing of Amon-Ra and Jefferson and the other slot elites running those same routes from the slot, too - obviously JJ can and does a bit more). The rise of the elite slot in tandem with the fall of the RB market is no accident imo.

RBBC has definitely killed the bellcow, but I would posit that the short-game passes have done their part too. It's what makes those rare guys like Ekeler, CMC, Gibbs, and Bijan so desirable - they have actual route-craft, and can operate as proper short-range passing weapons in a way that the 2-down grinders of the league just cannot. The checkdown routes of the old days aren't good enough anymore for being a "3 down back"... you've got to be as good as the passing down specialists, or you're coming off the field.

(As an aside: we should be properly scared of whatever Shanahan has cooked up for CMC in 2023 with a full offseason to scheme for him)

Anyway. Buy Garrett Wilson.

I acquired him a few weeks ago I’m very happy but All I can say is man expectations are high for him. I’ve seen this 1000 times in Dynasty and it always concerns me when expectations grow this much. All it does is bring the haters out and lower his value. If the guy doesn’t have a high end WR1 season people are gonna start calling him a bust. Why do we do this all the time with these guys? Let’s slow down a bit.

I think it all depends on the price. If people are valuing Garrett at Waddle's price, then Wilson has to have a season like Waddle did last year. If Wilson has 70rec/950yds/6TDs and people paid two 1sts+, it will seem like a bust. If Wilson has those same stats but someone paid Swift+late1st, it will look like a good deal.

Wilson can have a very good season, but still be a flop if someone paid Lamb prices for him. Or he could be a fantasy success if you paid Lockett prices for him.

In order to be worth what most are paying (or holding out for) these days, he has to almost achieve the stats in the message right before this one.

If Wilson underperforms this year his value will drop. Just like anyone else ranked around him.

But, he did what he did 1) as a rookie 2) with the actual worst QB situation in the league.

The chances that he bombs and somehow REGRESSES have to be less than 1% barring injury.

The loudest critics are usually the ones who just can't buy him anywhere. Also, dynasty has really regressed into a very impatient game.

Wilson will be fine. He's an absurd talent who's going to continue being the first read on passing plays and getting peppered with great opportunities from Rodgers.

If there's one thing I'm sure of after seeing today's games:

GW to the f--kin' moon.

Why do you worry about how others try to manipulate his perception? Worry about your perception. If you think he’s a top asset make him a cornerstone of your team. You can’t replace the single player ppg of a guy like that. If you think he’s overvalued then find a trade partner who will get you access to a player you do think is a top asset. You ought to be able to find enough willing traders.

Serious question, GW was the WR31 ppg in PPR last year. How is that not replaceable?

Obviously I love GW and think he will go beyond that, but even if he is a high end WR2/low end WR1, there is a pretty good tier of WRs scoring in that tier. I get the youth factor, but I think i'm missing the point you're making.

It’s projection going forward. His play on the field looks elite, even despite the subpar QB play last year. Many people, myself included, are projecting him as a top 10 WR this year. I fully expect him to get the Davante Adams treatment with Rodgers. I would be shocked if he finished as only a WR2 for fantasy.

I'm with you. However it wouldn't "shock" me if he was WR14 or 15. Worse than that (and no injury) would be quite a surprise. But there are a lot of good WRs in the 10-18 range this year.
