Hurts will be the starter week 14. Time for a Hurts thread. Is he the future starter of Philly?

Not sure, but this runs counter to the Wentz contract makes it impossible to bench him narrative. To me it makes sense. If you have a better QB on the roster there’s no reason you can’t start him and sit Wentz and his contract.

To your question, I think that’s what Philly is trying to figure out. They’re somewhat admitting Wentz is toast and need to get a good look at Hurts. However, having his first game against NO is not exactly easing him in. I think Peterson is realistic about the O-line and sets appropriate expectations. Essentially if Hurts generates any kind of consistent spark on offense I think the Eagles giveHurts an extended shot to be the guy next year.

There's legitimately no reason to play Wentz again this season. He's not making anyone better and continues to play like a bum. If the offense plays well in their remaining games, maybe Pederson makes it appear like it isn't his fault. But who knows how far out the door he is.

Who TF knows how the Wentz saga will unwind but the guy's confidence is toast for 2020, regardless of PHI's other issues, Wentz has brought this on himself. Pretty wild.

If Hurts balls out, what an insane value he could wind up being, went in the 3rd of all my 2QB/SF drafts.

I'm not sure if this means he won't start in Philly again, but even though the contract is bad, I think there is a team that would take the risk. Denver, Indianapolis to name a few.

In the meantime, the offense can't get much worse, even though I think someone like Ertz is going to be the biggest loser in this move.

Wentz to Indy would make a ton of sense.

Hoping the move to Hurts revives some value to Sanders for the playoffs.

It does, but it doesn't get me super excited as a colts fan. I'm sure he has a connection to reich and the colts could easily afford him. With their current line, Wentz wouldn't be forced into making brutal decisions. But situations change. Not long ago Andrew Luck was getting routinely massacred behind a porous OLine.

So much for that "The Eagles are stuck with Wentz" line of thought. However, the Eagles are pretty much cooked for this year with both NYG and WFT playing much better and improving. Why not sit Wentz and see what you've got in Hurts.

Unless Philly east A LOT of his contract, Ballard is not making this move,

I think Hurts will be great! Not related question...did they fire the coach and replace the entire offensive line? They didn't? Ok, never mind, it's gonna be more of the same lol.

Yes I've been coming around to the "why not start Hurts now?" Line of thought... Wentz is most likely stuck there in 2021, unless some team is willing to trade for him and Pilly is willing to eat a large portion of cap. So...

Why not bench him for the year to not ruin him completely. If Hurts plays well, then you may have something. If he plays poorly, then there's a QB competition for 2021 and maybe the competition brings out the best in at least 1 of them...

Probably a dumb thought but...

Could a Hurts trade be on the table if he plays well? Could they get a 1st for him and use that to help Wentz (since they're likely stuck with him) by drafting a lineman or a WR that plays more than 5 games a year?

Carson Wince is so bad it Hurts!

I know this is a Hurts thread but I can’t remember the last time we’ve seen a QB collapse like this. He had 4 really solid years with low turnovers. Most QBs that crater and lose their job there are at least warning signs. Are there any examples of this in the past? I suppose you could say Carson Palmer?

I didn't think he was a very good college QB, so I'd be rwally surprised if he succeeds at this level, but Josh Allen has shown it's not impossible.

The Eagles don't really have a choice but to eat the rest of the signing bonus. With that gone, it's basically a 4 year deal with $24m annual average, and only "rolling guarantees" (which I think mean his contract is guaranteed on something like the 5th day of the new league year if he is still on the roster- open to hearing from someone who knows more about it though). That seems like a fairly cheap, low-risk contract for a team like the Colts.

I think at this point playing Wentz for the rest of the year is just doing more damage to him and to the team around him, maybe they run with Hurts going forward, maybe they are just pulling Wentz till 2021 and try and fix him in the offseason.

I like the idea of Wentz going to Indy, despite how bad he is playing and people trying revisionist history he was once a very good QB which means he could be again, just like people calling Baker rubbish as if he didn't come in and set the td record for a rookie playing 14 1/2 games.

I was against playing Hurts earlier in the year because I thought throwing him behind this line would just kill his career but at this point as a Reagor and Sanders owner I'm happy to let Hurts play, can't be any worse than Wentz
