Source: Jon Gruden just informed his staff that he plans to resign as #Raiders coach.

Resigning over the racist and homophobic comments he made in an email leak from years ago.
When the vaunted N.F.L. coach Jon Gruden was confronted with a racist email he had sent in 2011 to insult the head of the players’ union, he said he went too far but didn’t have “a blade of racism” in him.

But league officials as part of a separate workplace misconduct investigation that did not directly involve him have found that Gruden, now the coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, casually and frequently unleashed misogynistic and homophobic language over several years to denigrate people around the game and to mock some of the league’s momentous changes.

He denounced the emergence of women as referees, the drafting of a gay player and the tolerance of players protesting during the playing of the national anthem, according to emails reviewed by The New York Times.

Gruden’s messages were sent to Bruce Allen, the former president of the Washington Football Team, and others, while he was working for ESPN as a color analyst during “Monday Night Football,” the sports network’s weekly prime-time telecast of N.F.L. games. In the emails, Gruden called the league’s commissioner, Roger Goodell, a “faggot” and a “clueless anti football bleep” and said that Goodell should not have pressured Jeff Fisher, then the coach of the Rams, to draft “queers,” a reference to Michael Sam, a gay player chosen by the team in 2014.

I am amazed that they finally found a way to get off that contract.

If I had to guess; I don't think ol' cash-strapped Chucky Davis is going to be throwing another 10-year 100 million dollar millstone at anyone any time soon.

So if there's one thing to the fantasy angle, I wouldn't expect anyone of major note to be tripping over themselves to inherit this roster, one of the worst GM's in the sport, and the future they've collectively saddled the incoming replacement with.

Additional to that - the "Gruden System" that Derek Carr has worked so studiously to learn over these last 3-and-some years will now, almost certainly, be replaced by another system. Are there even any other relevant coaches running Spider Y 2 Banana? The mainstream media isn't asking the TOUGH questions!

Regardless, it's hard to see that as a positive for the offense. I could be wrong! Then again, it's the Raiders.

Losing a coach like Gruden is not good for any Raiders players. I think when things like this happens it gives everyone an acceptable excuse to use if they fail. So, less pressure to be successful and accountable. Then again, they could use it as a reason to band together and prove they can win without Gruden.

From a football perspective, I'm glad. Not getting into the other stuff here, but it's year 4, and the results weren't there. They need some young blood in there.

10 targets a game for Bryan Edward’s now.

Why, so he can drop the ball? Carr hit him in the numbers a few times last week, one that would have been a 50 yard gain. Guy couldn't catch a cold.

Has that been a recurring theme with him or was it that isolated game?

Nah, just that game. I'm just frustrated because he really cost the team. I like Edwards, he just had a bad game. A really bad one.

Bad news for everyone on offense except maybe Jacobs.
Once the offensive system is completely overhauled (maybe not till next season) I think Waller falls off a cliff.
Hard to tell with Carr, but at some point he'll be traded.

Good news that he's been kicked to the curb.

Might as well. They couldn't do much worse than Gruden's 22-31 over the past 3+ seasons.

He was probably surprised he was getting targeted before the last minute of the game.

Strange how drops don’t matter for 99% of wrs in the nfl unless your name is Bryan edwards lol
