Daniel Jones
I searched for several pages and didn’t see a post on him so figured I’d make one. He looked pretty good in his playing time. Did the Giants make great move in selecting him? What’s everyone’s thoughts?

Re: Daniel Jones
A lot to be seen yet, but a really nice preseason. The key in NY will be to add more top end WR talent, maybe next year. He looks accurate but hasn’t faced a ton of pressure yet. Nice arm, nice poise. More potential and value than many initially gave him credit for

Re: Daniel Jones
i think he's exactly what the giants were looking for in a qb. that's why they took him so high up.

Re: Daniel Jones
As a Giants fan I’m really excited by what I’m seeing from the kid. I generally don’t trust Gettleman & didn’t know anything about Jones so I initially assumed the consensus was right and that they totally botched the pick. But now there’s actually some hope that this kid has a bright future.
Even if I wasn’t a Giants fan, it’s always nice to see someone prove the doubters and haters wrong, so I’m hoping he has a good career for both reasons.

Re: Daniel Jones
Yeah, he looked a lot better than expected. Reminds of me how Dak looked pretty good early on, except the QB ahead of Jones in this situation is as resilient as they come. Still, this passing offense was utterly horrible last year, so my guess is Jones starts at some point this year.

He looked really good during the preseason. Giants should tank and get Jeudy.

Re: Daniel Jones
I am rooting for him just because everyone was ridiculing him and to be honest, he looked the best of all rookie QBs in the preseason.
I mean, Madden even had Tyree Jackson rated higher than him.
No idea if he will pan out but the arrow is pointing up.

Re: Daniel Jones
His preseason numbers are insane. Something like an 80+ completion rate on 12+ yards per attempt.
I wouldn't project that to the regular season of course, but that's more than encouraging for a pick that was widely criticized.

Re: Daniel Jones
Giants fan here, I thought he was a good pick and think he'll be a good QB.
He played at Duke behind a not good O-Line and had a supporting cast of nobodies.
But if you watch him specifically, it shows some good tendencies (feel for the pocket, ball placement, toughness).
I liked his tape more than Rosen's or Darnold's or Haskins. And I like his situation WAY more, even today.
I think in terms of fantasy, I'd put him as a back-end QB1/mid-tier QB2 in a few seasons.
In Superflex he's been cheap as bleep, and probably still relatively so. I got him at 31st overall in a competitive SF before the preseason because everyone was just drinking the koolaid of idiotic load mouths from ESPN et al.

Re: Daniel Jones
I think most of the ridicule was because they took him.at 6 when it was pretty clear they could have waited until 19.

Re: Daniel Jones
I get the feeling this preseason has set him up for failure. I agree he has looked way better than anyone thought he would. That’s the problem. There’s going to be a contingency shouting for Jones to take over for Manning as soon as they lose their first game. And I expect they do turn to Jones at some point. The problem is he has created this new “better then we thought” persona now. So when he does get his shot in regular season games and likely struggles because the Giants are a dumpster fire outside of Barkley, people are going to think he blew his chance. When really it will be he set our expectations too high.
I’m all for that though because as an Eagles fan I friggin hate the Giants, lol.

Barkley, Engram, Shepard. There are worse units out there to work with. I know they lost Odell but they have some playmakers

Re: Daniel Jones
Giants fan. I was super bummed out when they took him - I wanted Haskins. That said, anytime a front office takes a QB top 10, they're basically betting their job on him, so you have to think they feel pretty good about it. So, ok, let's see what he does in the preseason.
He was obviously fantastic in the preseason, but against second string teams playing dummy defenses. The only thing you can learn from those reps is really ball placement, which was very very good. We have no idea if he can read a defense/go through progressions well, b/c most defenses are playing dummy base packages. Ball security could be a problem - he has to protect it better and feel the rush a little better (another negative). But all told, on those things you can look at and comment on during the preseason, he looked pretty damn good.
In short, there's obviously a ton of reasons for Giants fans to be positive after this showing. In a 1QB league, I drafted him to stash him at 3.12 cuz why not, and I'm cautiously optimistic about his fantasy potential. Meaning he could be a streaming starter if you're like me and don't invest much if it all in the position.
The Giants are a deplorable mess, but they have put together what should be a very competent offensive line. I think they'll be a worse than .500 team, maybe a 6 win team with Eli starting all year, but when Jones is ready they'll give him a chance to play. Could be after the mini-bye week (10 days off after the Thursday game vs. the Pats), when they play the Cardinals at home. Good chance to bring him in when he's at home vs. a bad team.
