Jacob Eason

Postby Valhalla » Mon Aug 02, 2021 10:24 am

Was he showing much for NFL promise in college? I know he was a big name in college but didn't watch him. Anyone know much about him as a prospect? Big arm? Noodle arm? Check-down? Careless? Overly cautious? Can't/can go through progressions well? Much for mobility? I crave some details.

Very strong arm, huge guy, not very mobile.

Issues stemming from poor work ethic was the major concern out of college and likely why he fell to day 3.

Let me make it easy for you, Indy is screwed unless we sign Foles or we wait until Wentz is healthy. Eason is not good

Thanks! It's this type of personal opinion from those of you who have watched him that I'm looking for.

Big arm, made some spectacular throws that Jake Browning never could, but he was really inconsistent, not mobile at all, and had problems with accuracy. Overall, didn't seem to be able to run the offense as well as Browning did.

Agreed. I think the general opinion of Husky fans was that Eason underperformed. If he couldn't do it in the Pac-12, I don't imagine he'll be lighting it up in the NFL.

There were reports everywhere that he had some big work ethic issues in college.

Maybeee he sees the light in the NFL, but it's very hard to suddenly turn it on after years of coasting

If Indy doesn't pick up another QB soon, I could see a fantasy owner taking a flyer on Eason in SF. I wouldn't waste my time right now in 1QB.

Yes I was tongue in cheek, but my statement is accurate. I have seen him in practices, camp, etc. I have talked to local media. NOBODY has expectations of Eason performing well. His is all arm, no head.

I really liked his college tape. I've accepted the fact that I was probably wrong on him considering his draft capital, but I'm still holding out hope that I was onto something. I'll be thrilled if he gets some sort of opportunity this year just to see what he's made of.

You think Indy sits Wentz that long even if he's healthy? I mean the minimum he's out is preseason and I doubt he's ready week 1 or 2. But I couldn't see the Colts just throwing the first 6 weeks (and possibly the year) to save the 1st over the 2nd. Of course, that's assuming Eason is nothing spectacular and the Colts go 2-2 or 1-3 or early on. If Eason wins, Wentz missing time means a lot less

I don't think Indy sits Wentz if they are 100% convinced he is 100% healthy. But history has shown us Wentz is not a quick healer - and he is prone to a lack of mental toughness, which is needed to come back early from injury and feel confident enough to play at the highest physical level. If the experts are saying 5 to 12 weeks, even if we take a generous middle ground, that's 8-9 weeks which will be game 4 or 5.

Also, if the doctors determine Wentz is 85% healthy and ready to play after week 3, I could see the team deciding to hold him out of tough defensive matchups against Miami and Baltimore and giving Wentz a little more time before coming back against the Texans in 6. It doesn't make much sense for Indy to insert Wentz in week 4 when one more missed game would almost certainly save them a 1st round pick.
