Should I rebuild around Saquon, or find a trade?

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Should I rebuild around Saquon, or find a trade?

Postby epsilonindi » Mon Apr 27, 2020 11:47 am

New to dynasty, took over an orphan after the '19 draft, and my team (below) is completely devoid of talent outside of DK and Saquon.

My question is, should I build around Saquon by trying to pick up RBs and WRs and a good QB over the next couple years of drafts? Or would it be better for a rebuild to trade Barkley for, I don't know, say 3 first rounders and change? I just don't know if he'll still be productive by the time the rest of my team can get there. What's the better rebuilding strategy?

I'd hold him myself, and build around him. He's young enough that there's zero rush to move him now.

Depth matters a lot in a 16 team. I would let the offers come in for Saquon. I don't like depending on RBs after their rookie deal is up and you would need to draft perfectly to even have a chance at competing in the next 3 years.

Hold onto him until an overpay offer comes your way. 3 1sts wouldn't be enough for me to move him. Maybe if it was the 1.01, 1.02, and 1.03.

Absolutely build around Barkley. Keep Washington, too. He will be worth a lot more by the end of next season.

I would sell if I could get a haul for him. Out him on the block and see what offers you get. Can't hurt

So I would send a lg wide email saying that Barkley is on the block and to send your best offers.

That said, in a 16 team league, Barkley and DKM along with what you get at 2 and 5 could put you in contention really quick. Let’s say it’s Barkley, CEH, DKM, Jeudy...maybe Burrow lasts to 2.2? All of a sudden you have a legit chance.

I’d put him on the block and look for an overpay for contender with a deep roster, otherwise hold

Maybe you haven't played in a 16 team league before, but you have a contender there. Don't sell your team short.

With 1.02, if you get Burrow there, you will still get a top 4 RB at 1.05 .... or, if Burrow goes 1.01, you get CEH or Taylor at 1.02, then either Tua/Herbert, another rb, or the #1wr at 1.05. I like both of those scenarios for you. Then load up on wrs with many of your following picks.

Good luck, and have fun!

Not a superflex, so isn't 1.05 too high for QB? I assume I'll do two of Clyde/Taylor/Swift/Dobby/Lamb, and then hope Tua falls to 2.02 (because I really really don't want to have to take Herbert).

Thanks for the optimism!

Since this is a standard scoring league I would go Taylor at 1.02. If he isn't there I'd look at trading back 1 or 2 spots and grabbing Dobbins/Swift/Akers. A lot of the value of CEH is going to come from his role in the passing game. I like the rest of your draft plan though.

I'd put out that you are taking offers for Barkley, but it would have to be a good one for me to actually trade him.

Not a superflex. But a 16 team league. I've been playing in them forever, and my experience is that you want to secure your qb position. Top flight rookie qbs are golden in that format. It took me a decade of overdrafting rbs to finally come to that realization.

Good luck!

Wanted to echo this. In 16-team leagues QB's are indeed gold. Burrow will go Top Three in every 16-team league I am in.

Hmm, interesting to think about. I assumed that starting 3 WRs would make having quality starters like Lamb more valuable (because otherwise I'm starting Josh Reynolds), that top RBs are valuable in any standard format, and that I would just "figure out" QB sometime later.

You have any other tips from your experience in a 16-teamer?

-Thanks
