Opinion

Postby jab3120 » Thu Oct 10, 2019 8:26 am

So I am curious what's everyone's opinion on picking up RB handcuffs to a RB not on your roster? Would you use the roster spot on that player knowing you could find better production on the FA's or pick up the handcuff and hope eventually you get to use or trade them?

It all depends on who's available and who you would be dropping. I see nothing wrong with it if it's your best option, especially if the starting RB is injured often. I wouldn't go out of my way to grab them though.

If there's someone better available, I'm not passing them up for another RBs handcuff (even if I own that RB).

Fair enough, I am just reading that according to some analysts Reggie Bonnafon is a must own in all league's in case CMC goes down. I am just thinking players like that, worth that spot or not? I'm on the fence cause I get it, but at the same time if CMC (in this example) plays the whole year I literally wasted that spot and could of had someone else who may produce. Just interesting to see how everyone thinks about things.

I would pick up the best option available. In my experience handcuff trades just dont work out as planned. Grab the best piece for your team.

It depends on the player/situation really, but in general yes. If the backup RB would likely be a true handcuff (i.e. 60%+ of the touches), they're worth rostering if only to sell for a 2nd or more if/when the starter misses time.

yeah, well, they're talking bollocks.
even if bonnafon was to take up CMC's full workload (he wouldn't) he's not nearly as talented and wouldn't put up similar numbers.
secondly, mccaffrey is the whole panthers' offense right now. if he goes down they'd be redskins levels of bad.

if mccaffrey goes down and your best bet to replace him is bonnafon, you're screwed.

Disagree. Bonnafon is an excellent grab exactly because CMC IS the CAR offense. And he has shown well during the very few opportunities he's been given.

To answer OP, I think it's better to grab cuffs to RBs with either significant injury history or who are the centerpiece. Grabbing cuffs to guys in RBBC position makes no sense.

this is my stratagy. have solid WRs--set and forget. then use the rest of your bench space for RBs. when the backups start to go off... package up for a better RB or stud QB or TE.... rinse, repeat

handcuff RBs go from zero to value in the blink of an eye.... so long as you aren't competing and need the production, just sell them when you can for a player with more staying power.

he IS the offense because he's so good.
if you're saying bonnafon is just as good and his production would be, say, 80% of CMC's, fair enough, though i disagree. i don't even think he would play 80% of mccaffrey's snaps.

i'm not saying he's not worth a shot either, but "must own"? nope, not really.
