OJ Howard for Tyler Boyd

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

OJ Howard for Tyler Boyd

Postby eraldo_coil » Thu Jan 31, 2019 8:20 am

For team 1 in sig.

Give: OJ

Get: Boyd

I should be fine at the TE position in 2019 with Njoku, Walker, Smith, and the emergence of Ian Thomas. Plus i'm worried about OJ in the new Arians offense as he's notorious for under utilizing TEs.

Thoughts on the value?

Pretty even in value for me, with a slight edge to Howard due to positional value. I'd personally keep Howard and I'm not worried about Arians in TB. He hasn't had a TE of Howard's talent.

I'd take Boyd all day, I'm in a start 2 TE league as well and TE wasn't the position that won championships.

Arians never had a really good TE like OJ. WHo'd he have, Darren Fells in Arizona? That's not underutilizing a TE, that's just working with what you have. The Arians comment isn't really a valid argument IMO. Boyd has become one of the better slot receivers in the game, and OJ has elite TE upside. Take your pick. Arians doesn't affect OJH value at all, IMO. Looking beyond Arizona into Arians past is really pointless, too, because the NFL is different than even 10 years ago. If you believe Arians is a dinosaur who still runs an offense from 20 years ago, you should be staying away from that offense altogether, anyway. If you believe he will make use with what he has, OJ should be used. Besides, a ton of TE targets are on 2nd and 3rd reads, and that's down to the TE, and his ability to get open, not on the HC/OC.

I'm as high on Boyd as anyone but I think I'm holding OJ here. Not sure how fine you really are at TE. Walker could fall off cliff at any time. Who knows what Smith is. Thomas showed some flashed but is completely unproven. That leaves Njoku. Big name with big potential. But he hardly set the league on fire. Howard has produced big time when on the field. You don't need Boyd right now so I'd hold and reassess in season.

Value-wise it's even, but I think OJ is the better talent. If he breaks out this year or next year, which wouldn't be uncommon for a young TE, he'll be worth much more than Boyd.

Guys like Boyd come along quite often. Howard is an elite TE. Give him some time, Boyd was useless until this past year.

Howard. Boyd doesn't help your team that much

I think that is a terrible mistake. OJ is an ascending talent that could finish the year as a young elite TE. I think we just saw Boyd's ceiling. I think he's good, but he'll never be great.

Howard could be the best TE in football. That's the upside. Give that up for Boyd?
