David Montgmery is better than any of those RB's IMO. Quite easily. Just my take, though.
It's interesting to see differing opinions. Montgomery is #9 RB on my list...
His pass catching is down, his stats have never been anything special and I don't think he will test well. I think he's more TJ Yeldon/Devontae Booker level talent than a deserving top 5 rookie pick.

We shall see, to me he shows great elusiveness, and although i don't think his 40 will be great, I think his 3 cone could be. His contact balance is really good, too. Should be interesting to see, but I have him way ahead of Booker in talent. Booker was an older prospect, Montgomery is younger and looks better to the eyes for me. He shows well against competition that is much better than his team, too. He looked very good vs Oklahoma (5) and West Virginia (6).

I fully agree.

I’ve said a couple times, he actually reminds me of a 2018 rookie, Chase Edmonds. Obviously a bit bigger which is good, but not exciting really.

Is it just me or does there seem to be 4 or 5 guys that you'd want and the rest are kinda "meh"?

It's exactly that. This class lacks a true undeniable stud and doesn't have depth either. Once you get around 1.06-1.07, I think things are going to fall off a cliff.

Agreed. That is why I traded away my first and second in 2019 but have been reluctant to part with 2020 picks. Heck I've already picked up a 2020 first.

There is still going to be value in 2019, but this looks like the weakest class by far when you look at 2017-2020.

Yep, it usually happens like that. 2020 should be a better class, especially if players like DK Metcalf and Rodney Anderson get healthy, come back to school and return to form.

There is a good possibility DK still declares this year.

IDK, Chase never played against top teams did he? Montgomery looked very good against some top competition. To the quote you commented on: The fact his pass catching is done is not a factor. He has shown he can catch the ball, and in the NFL, that will get utilized more than most college programs. He's has less questions about his hands then guys like Melvin Gordon, and Melvin turned into a 3 down workhorse. To my knowledge, there is little question about Montgomery's hands.

Seems risky to me. I think his stock would go up more if he returns to school healthy and beasts.

Isn't that kind of par for the course this time of year? The mid/late 1st is typically for guys who's value escalates heading up to the draft. No one was very excited about Kamara or Hunt or Kerryon or Michael Thomas at this point in their final college season. They were all just names on a page similar to the bevy of names we have this year that look like they could or could not make for nice 1st round fantasy picks.

You are definitely right about the lack of a true stud though.

That's a fair point, pass catching is pretty binary. I'm not out completely on any big back that can catch, it just feels like someone will always like him more than I do. In the right situation he could be pretty good for fantasy.

Just going from what Dan Brugler said, if he can test, his stock will not drop too much, with his measurables. The thinking is he is still top 50, and it might be riskier to go back, and have another injury, and may never make a dime. He signs as a top 50 pick, he's got a good 4 year deal. Supposedly his intention was to declare, and I can see him jumping ship to then NFL for millions of dollars rather than to a team who's coach played arguably the top WR prospect on special teams and got him hurt.

“I think D.K. was somewhere Top 50,” Dane Brugler, the lead NFL Draft analyst for The Athletic, said. “And not only me, but talking to scouts, they view D.K. as a Top 50 prospect. Could have gotten to the first round? Absolutely. That was in the mix. He’s the guy you want coming off the bus, first and foremost, with the freakish build that he has. He’s a workout warrior. You see the speed on the field. A freaky talent like that, those guys don’t last very long in the NFL Draft. Not only the measurables when you talk about the workout numbers, but he produced quality film, especially with his ability to get vertical. We see that often in the Ole Miss offense, obviously, but very strong at the catch point. There’s a lot to like about D.K. Metcalf.

“But the injury kind of changes things a little bit. I think most still expect him to declare for the draft. That would make sense. But how will the injury affect his NFL decision, but also moving forward, is there anything long-term that teams have to worry about? Will he be able to give full workouts before the draft? There’s a lot of unknown at this point. The NFL Draft, the NFL Combine, the most important aspect of the combine is the medicals. That’s where it’ll be huge for D.K. Metcalf just for the doctors to look at him, see what’s going on with the neck, make sure that he’s on pace to make a full recovery and then, long-term, there aren’t any worries. This is a draft class where there’s not that one true top wide receiver this year. A.J. Brown, he’s up there. Riley Ridley from Georgia’s up there. There’s about five or six receivers that are in that late-first, early-second-round discussion. They’re all jockeying for position. Unfortunately, this injury is going to hurt D.K.’s chance of being the first receiver off the board. But as long as the medicals turn out OK, he’ll still be an early-round draft pick most likely. As long as he’s healthy and on the field, he’s going to be able to help an offense.”

This WR class is very deep this year, if the bolded is the case.

Thanks for all the feedback, this leads me to;What should you do if you have a top 2 or 3 pick for 2019, trade it for what you hope might be a high 2020 pick? I think I'll start a new topic for discussion.

Don't trade a top 2 or 3 pick for a 2020 first, why would you do that? It could end up being 1.11, and you have to wait a year for production. I made a trade this year where I thought the guy's pick I was trading away was 1.08 at best. It's now 1.02 right now, so don't try and project future picks too far ahead on where they will be, too much can change.

IF you wanted to trade a top 2 or 3 pick this year, it should get you TWO random 2020 firsts.

Absolutely this. A 2019 1st that looks top 5 shouldn't net some random 2020 1st alone.
