Re: Chad Kelly
I think he does. Keenum just doesn't pass the eye test anymore. He looks like he is on a downward slide and is boosted by the talent around him similar to his stint at MIN. One of the podcasts I listen to who have ears in DEN says that there is a strong pull for Chad Kelly and he seemed to think they'll switch at some point this season.
Kelly was a nice prospect who's main issue was injury. He looked good in preseason and I think he could be decent if he gets an extended look as a starter. I'd say 50-60% chance that he could be the DEN starting QB in 2019. I do like his game and think he would unlock Sutton's potential a lot more than Keenum will. Keenum had a really nice run but my eyes tell me it may be nearing the end.

I think so. I know the Broncos really like him but they paid Keenum some good money so it may take a bit.

Re: Chad Kelly
This. Chad Kelly was an idiot in college and got in trouble off the field and clashed with teammates at Clemson before he got the boot. His final year of college he had injury issues.joeya2001 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 9:00 amI like Chad Kelly as well not a knock on him,Needalife wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 8:58 am I think he does. There seems to be a lot of people that like Swag Kelly, but I don't ever see him amounting to much in the NFL. QB is a position that all teams reach for if they think a guy has talent. Jameis Winston is a complete turd off the field, but got drafted 1st overall because he has all the arm talent of an NFL stud. I just don't see any reason to get excited about a 7th round QB. Before someone says "Brady went in the 6th round", he is the extreme exception. In SF, I (barely) understand him being on a roster . If you only play 1 QB, he doesn't belong on a roster at all.

Denver has an EXTREMELY easy schedule. If Chad Kelly impresses at training camp and preseason I expect him to usurp Lynch. And if Keenum is mainly responsible for a losing record heading into the bye, wouldn't be surprised if Kelly gets a shot.
There are a few if's in there, but nothing far-fetched considering Denver hasn't had a steady QB since Peyton in 2014.

Plenty of people were immature in College and made mistakes. Baker Mayfields college career is not clean either - did not stop him from being drafted 1.01 either. If you are unsure of Chad Kelly talk to people who follow the Broncos organization closely and pretty much all of them will tell you Chad Kelly has been working very hard and there have been no signs of being a cancer in the locker room. There have been zero reports of off-field incidents since being drafted.
That arrest was back in 2014 (Kelly was 20) - so 4 years ago - and was outside of a nightclub. It is going to have no effect on his NFL career so long as it remains an isolated incident.

Kelly will start after the next really bad game by Keenum. I could see Keenum potentially struggling the next couple of weeks @ KC and vs HOU. If they lose both of those games, Kelly could get some work with the first-team offense during DEN's Week 10 bye and start Week 11 @ LAC.

Nobody has said it has an affect on his pro chances. That was in relation to why he slipped to the 7th round, among other things.ArrylT wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 9:22 am Plenty of people were immature in College and made mistakes. It's fun to get excited about a prospect or shiny new possibility, but 7th rounders rarely if ever make an impact. Let alone at QB. Denver just tried that experiment with Trevor Siemian and thought they were better to give Case Keenum 15 million a year. Chances of Kelly ever being long term relevant in real life or fantasy is slim to none.

Anyone who says his presence in the NFL is invalid, is a tool. Come to think of it, anyone who speaks with that type of pretentious robotic jargon is a tool anyway.

That's fair but how many 7th rounders are on a roster mid-way thru their 2nd season? I would guess the percentage of those that hit is much better.jenkins.math wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 9:32 am

Like you mentioned in your previous post - teams sometimes have to take a shot on QBs. That is exactly why Houston spent the money they did on Brock Osweiler.jenkins.math wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 9:32 am Nobody has said it has an affect on his pro chances. It is kind of interesting you mentioned Keenum in the sense that Keenum was a UDFA.
And noted that Kelly fell in the draft due in part to his off-field mishaps and probably in part to the injuries.
So basically Kelly is not your normal 7th round draft pick much less 7th round QB taking on a former UDFA on his 4th team.
Kelly already beat out a QB with 1st round pedigree. So now he has to beat out a QB with no draft pedigree, only 1 real year as a proven starter and barely making starter QB money.
https://overthecap.com/position/quarterback/
Pretty much every starting QB on that list making less than Keenum is on a rookie contract. Everyone else is a journeyman, backup or 3rd string. Tyrod & Foles are getting paid similar amounts to ride the pine. Bradford making 20m a year. So Keenums salary is not really a reason to believe he has job safety - its basically the minimum Denver had to pay. In fact, from a salary cap standpoint it would make more financial sense to get Kelly under center as early as 2019. That would leave them with 2 years of rookie contract Kelly before having to pay him.
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/denver-bron ... num-10079/
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/denver-bron ... lly-21995/
Doesnt mean it will happen - but the odds are closer to 50/50 imho than they are to 0%. The fact that Denver was willing to let go of Lynch after only 2 years is more of an indication of belief in Kelly than a sign Keenum is their long term guy. Maybe it is neither - maybe Denver drafts another QB in the 2019 class - but if reports are true that the 2020 class is better - again that makes more sense to go with Kelly in 2019, over Keenum.

Re: Chad Kelly
Getting rid of Lynch after 2 seasons is more of Lynch being absolutely awful and Kelly being a cheaper backup for a team that is in rebuild mode if you ask me. Sure Kelly was better than him, but he looked ok against backups and third stringers in the preseason where Lynch looked completely lost.
Keenum is an NFL starter now for what? 22 games? How many people are starting him in fantasy right now and feel good about that? How fantasy relevant is Case Keenum? Great real life story, but is a blip on the fantasy radar.
The conversation has now shifted from "is he fantasy relevant" to "does he deserve to be on an NFL roster" which are two entirely different discussions. I've never said he doesn't deserve to be in the NFL or things of that nature. But I don't think he has long term NFL starting potential, and if he doesn't have that, then he doesn't have long term fantasy relevance. Which this is what this board is all about right? Fantasy football or am I in the wrong place?
