Top seven Dynasty startup players

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Top seven Dynasty startup players

Postby Ethan Thomas Jr » Fri May 25, 2018 2:55 pm

I am in a start up dynasty league and I am picking at seventh overall. The league is PPR 1 QB 2 RB 2 WR 1 TE 1 kicker and defense, and 1 flex. I want my team to be young at its core, so I want young guys with my first picks. Here is my top seven right now,

1. OBJ
2. Nuk
3. Gurley
4. Zeke
5. Barkley
6. Kamara
7. Michael Thomas

Is there anything I should change? Am I overvalueing wide recievers?

David Johnson, AB (+Bell?) probably belong here before the Saints
I also think Thomas before Brown would be mistake, I understand you want a young core, but Brown is consistently dominant

How many elite years can I expect from those three guys though? I am not trying to win now.

Kamara has no business in this conversation. He had a dominant year but he's the biggest regression candidate in recent memory.

Unless he is literally the greatest RB of all time he is going to disappoint anyone banking on numbers similar to last year.

Than what young player would you replace him with?

Kamara is a huge gamble, and will most likely regress. But, he was the #3 ranked RB last season, and Ingram is going to miss the first four games this season, and likely won't be back next.

Personally, I'd have a hard time passing on AB, but if OP wants to go young then I can fully understand AK. He looked absolutely insane at only what, 22 years old?

As has been mentioned many times Kamara’s “Doomsday” regression will likely be compensated by increased usage. Remember he was the third RB the first 5 games until they traded Peterson. He only led the team in touches the last 6 games, not counting the game when he got a concusion in the first quarter.

Being a semi feature back Kamra could see very well 200 carries and 100 catches. Keep in mind Kamara had more catches than Amari Cooper. He is a stud.

Any number of bell cow RBs who get more than 15 carries per game. DJ, Bell, Fournette, Hunt, Cook.

I doubt a lot of people will agree with me but i'd rather bet my money on a RB who gets 25 touches per game and averages 4.8 YPC and 7 YPR than betting on a RB who gets 15 touches per game and hope that he continues to rush for 6 YPC and 10 YPR.

The former is a reasonable prediction on a yearly basis, the latter is not.

Payton's already said that he's not planning on increasing Kamara's usage substantially. He's always used a multi-back system to keep his guys fresh.

200 carries and 100 receptions is not a "semi-featured" role. That's a full fledged feature back role. So Kamara either becomes a workhorse back and per touch numbers regress or he doesn't and his per touch numbers regress.

I know where the smart money lies. Do you?

I think it’s a mistake to go into a startup with a rebuild mindset. You’re going to be leaving a lot of value on the table if you insist on an ageist “strategy.” If AB is there at the seventh pick, you’d be crazy to pass on him. You can always flip him later in the season if it looks like you’re not going to be competitive right out of the gate. You really need to just go BPA for at least the first 4-5 rounds and then determine if your team is built to win now or in the future and then draft accordingly from there.
Both are 12-team 1QB PPR dynasties

🦬PRIME🦬
QB: Hurts, Howell
RB: Mixon, Jones, Sanders, Dobbins, Akers, Roschon, Dowdle, Kelley
WR: Nuk, Godwin, Cooper, Lockett, Flowers, Chark, Collins, Hollins, Tillman, Tolbert
TE: Hockenson, Chig, Trautman
Taxi: Willis, Z. White, M. Mims, T. Palmer

Hull Awaits
$450 cap, 60 contract years

QB: Lawrence $5/3, Richardson $5/5, Minshew $1/0, Jones $1/0, Heinicke $1/0, Tyrod $1/0
RB: Achane $4/4, Warren $2/4, Roschon $7/5, Dillon $4/1, Hubbard $2/1, Kelley $1/0
WR: Nuk $78/1, MT $25/1, M. Williams $1/0, JSN $21/5, Reed $4/5, Rice $4/5, M. Wilson $2/5
TE: Thomas $1/0, Hill $1/0, Parham $1/0

I like this list. Maybe one or two up/down but i like this top 7 in general. Evans is severly underrated off recency bias where he played with an injured jameis and fitz. Set up and locked in with a young franchise qb for years. It was only this time a year ago recency bias on hopkins pushed him down to a steal of a value last year.

X2, and what needs to be considered is that the goal in the end is to win

I ment I am not in win now/all in mode. I would love to win out of the gate, but I want a young core team to build around. I do not want players that will be out of the league in three years.
