2018 Rookie WRs Thread

With the RB craze in full effect, I don’t hear a ton of chatter about the incoming rookie wideouts.

Use this thread to pump up your favorite WRs from the 2018 class.

Whose in your top tier, 2nd tier, 3rd, etc? Who desperately needs to show out at the combine? Who’s under the radar? Who’s over hyped?

overhyped: Calvin Ridley. 23 year old slot receivers with underwhelming production do not deserve to be top 15 nfl draft picks

underlooked: DJ Moore and Michael Gallup. Both extremely productive at young ages with above average athleticism.

What do we think about Kirk? Is he a potential Jarvis Landry?

cain is a guy I am watching closely the clemson wr line has been terrific lately
I would worry about gallup after rashard higgins MEH start after his huge# I would be suspicious of a system type player , don't know about his combine type # that could separate him from higgins but until I see more I will not be all in on him. yardage share % & td% share both cratered this season - avg size = huge? for me

Who is the #1 receiver and where would you currently place him in the mad hyped RB if there weren't team needs?

I have the 1.6, need an RB more, but don't want to pass on a WR1 stud potentiall to grab an RB3 sized talent if there's the expected RB rush out the gate that continues longer this year

I’m in the exact same boat. Same pick and same need. Sutton seems to be the overwhelming #1 WR

But considering Alabama only passed for roughly 2500 passing yards on the season and Ridley had over 900 receiving yards, you can see why his numbers may look 'underwhelming' but in reality he owns over 35% of the teams receiving yards which is well above average and is one of the biggest correlations with NFL success. For reference, the 35% of teams receiving yards is right around the 70th percentile for college dominator.

But I do agree with age being a concern.

Sutton WR1 for sure, he will probably go in the 1.02-1.05 range

Barkley
--------
Guice/Chubb/Sutton/Michel

Could see 1.02-1.05 being any of those 4 in all different orders

I have 2 big issues with Sutton;
1- He comes from a small school which usually takes longer to develop into a fantasy football caliber WR.
2- He wasn't even the best WR on his team this year...

Guys I've looked into so far some that I like:

Ridley: may be "old", but so was Cooper Kupp. Has good speed and really good routes. He breaks people off with those routes. I'm sure he'll measure out to have smallish hands, and he looks rail thin, all of which will be added to his numbers the last 2 seasons being lower than 2015, but ultimately I think he looks like he can ball. Being from Bama and being compared to Cooper might make some a bit meh on him after the season Cooper just had.

DJ Moore: looks like he plays covered in grease a la Kamara! Even looks like he turns into a shifty RB once the ball is in his hands and looks pretty deadly in space. Increased his production every season and his final Maryland year he broke 1000 yards, ALL while having not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, but FIVE different QB's throwing him the ball. Will be entering the league pretty young as I believe he's still just 20.

James Washington: dominant as all hell during his time at Ok State. The opposite of DJ Moore, as he had 1 QB, and a solid one at that threw him the ball the entire time. Looks like a really fierce, "my ball" kinda guy when the ball is in the air even though he's listed at 6'0 205 and will probably measure shorter than that. Excellent at the deep ball, can and will consistently adjust and contort himself to make great deep catches. Build is a bit unusual and reminds of Steve Smith or Hines Ward, thick for a smaller WR.

Auden Tate: massive frame. Looks like a leaner KB who can bully DB's with the ball in the air. Willing to go up and get it whether he's among 2 DB's in the corner of the end zone or in the middle of the field and he's got a hit coming. Unlike KB, looks to have some nice feet for a big 6'4 220lb guy. Strong TD production, solid hands.

He needs to improve his route-running, which is poor-at-best atm.

Being the "best" isn't the same thing as not being as productive. And Quinn is no scrub (he was a 5 star recruit). Sutton drew creative coverages this year, and his QB play was hit-and-miss. I will say that his development time will be curved, but it has nothing to do with SMU. He came there as a safety, and is still learning the position.

Thank you for pointing that out, I meant to say he wasn't the most productive WR at SMU. Saying 'best' is just a big trap to get everybody's opinion.

At the moment, I would probably rather take Quinn later in rookie drafts over Sutton in the top 5. Still lots of time to see how things unfold though.

Sutton's biggest weakness right now is his route acumen, and he didn't develop as much in that area from 16-17 as he did from 15-16. It's a red flag, for sure. But if you watch his feet, athleticism and flexibility though, you can project how he might leap forward with a few years of NFL coaching (especially when accounting for his size). As he currently sits, he's a mismatch nightmare, with strong hands, elite size and good balance. His ceiling is higher than anyone's in this draft not-named-Barkley imo. If he develops, he's Brandon Marshall.

I think Sutton is a guy I can and will easily target impatient owners in a year or two(especially 2). People can preach all day long about their long game, but when it comes down to it will unload for pennies on the dollar when he is wasting away on their bench.
