Talk to me about this guy. Clearly just had a week 3 breakout but was it a fluke? I assumed he was more few safety (appears I may have been incorrect?). Will his usage stay high? Educate me!

He's definitely a strong, not free safety. Burnett has been playing LB so Jones has gotten his SS snaps

Seems like Jones is primed for a potentially huge season if they are going to continue to deploy him at SS with Burnett down in the box at LB. Do we know if this was game specific? Or has it been trending this way?

Everything that I read about the situation during the preseason was that he was drafted to be the Burnett replacement and that his drafting was a sign that they might not resign Burnett. It appears that he has impressed the coaches and is getting his chance earlier than expected. Burnett has been moved to the slot corner and Jones is playing the LB/S hybrid. Given their performances last week and everything that I'm hearing from GB, I would expect this to continue, at least in the short term. And Jones is definitely a guy that I would target for next year.

I would not. You'd be benching an annual DB1 in favor of a rookie who's had one good week out of 3. Let it play out. I don't mind benching Burnett in favor of a guy like Farley, Poyer, or Killibrew, but I wouldn't start Jones yet.

I started him last week but I'm not so sure we can start him with confidence unless Wilson is out again. He's trending in that direction tho.

Don't expect this type of week from Jones each and every week but he is the future playmaker of the GB defense. I don't think he will play a lot in a traditional SS role this season unless Burnett gets hurt. When GB plays base 3-4 (10-25% of snaps) Burnett plays a traditional SS role moving around in the defense. When GB goes Nitro (5 DB+Jones) it will be Jones at ILB, Burnett at Slot Corner/SS, and either Brice or Evans at a traditional SS position. Traditional Nickel and Dime may or may not include Jones. At this point in his career Jones is best at blowing things up and using his speed/strength combo to be a disruptive force.

Moving forward Jones greatest value maybe Burnett staying in GB allowing him to move between SS and ILB. He has the size (6'2" 220lb) and aggressiveness to play LB with little fear. This should lead to a lot of tackles, sacks, and big plays (See Week 3). If Burnett leaves Jones will move back into a traditional SS role with some LB packages leading to a solid IDP player but not elite.

So I grabbed Josh Jones and now need to decide between him (vs. Bears), Killbrew (vs. Vikings), Vaccaro (vs. Miami), and Byron Jones (vs. Rams) for my 2 DB spots (tackle heavy). Any of these guys must start or fade this week? I would think the Bears and Rams do the most running plays.

I would rather sit Jones. I don't see Chicago putting up tons of tackle opportunities

Wasn't Burnett playing a different role on defense in the last couple of years when he was a DB1? I feel like him moving to the box and to slot corner when Jones is on the field could kill a lot of his value.

They're all chess pieces so it's hard to predict usage or pts. I'm not that against benching Burnett, I am mainly cautioning someone against plugging Jones into their lineups after one good week.

Received a trade offer for Josh Jones.

The guy proposing the trade was ahead of me in the waiver order this week and picked up Jones. He asked if I'd be open to trading him Chris Carson for Jones straight up.

I picked up Chris Carson for free on waivers and I'm not sure what his ceiling is, or where he fits on my team other than a stash. I'm 3-0 and firing on all cyclinders right now, so I don't feel like I need to make any moves even though I like Jones and had him on my watch list.

How close of an offer is this? Should I counter by asking him to throw in a pick? Or, since both were waiver finds, do we agree not to get greedy and trade them straight up?

I would NEVER trade a starting offensive player for a DB off the wire.

Jones might be a really nice asset in the future, or he might turn into a really annoying chess piece who gets moved around and plays 65% of the snaps. Or he might turn out to suck and get benched.
