Keep the 1.01 or trade?

Postby BeRanDone » Thu Aug 19, 2010 10:18 am

I have a couple owners who are interested in trading for the 1.01 in my keeper league. Just to give you an idea of players that will be available in the pool, no players drafted in the 1st or 2nd rounds of the previous year's draft can be kept, and most 3rd round players aren't kept. We use a keeper number system, so you'd see players kept in this league that may not be kept in standard keeper leagues where everybody just keeps studs. See edit section below for more clarification.

My keepers this year: Marshall, Austin, Crabtree, Finley

So like I said, I have the 1.01 pick and I'm pretty sure if I kept the pick, I'd go with Chris Johnson. The owner that's has talked about the best deal holds the 1.08. The verbal deal is:

I give: 1.01, 3.01

I get: Sidney Rice, 1.08, 4.01

I wouldn't have to worry about a WR for a LONG time in the draft as I'd have Marshall, Austin, Rice, and Crabtree (which I would be able to keep all 4 for next year using our keeper number system). In our 16 round draft, that would leave me with the following picks: 1.08, 2.12, 3.03, 6.12, 7.01, 8.12, 11.01, 12.12, 13.01, 15.01.

Starting req's: QB, 1-2 RB, 2-4 WR, 1-2 TE, K, DEF
Scoring relevant to WR's: 0.25PPR, 6pt td's, TD length modifiers, rec yardage modifiers.

Should I stay put, or should I do the deal?

Edit: Figured I'd explain the keeper rules more clearly. Every player drafted gets assigned a keeper number based on the round they were drafted in. Miles Austin was drafted in the 16th round last year, so he has a KN of 16. Each year, player's KNs subtract by 2, which equals the pick the owner would have to forfeit to keep him. So, Austin's owner (me in this situation) would have to give up a 14th round pick to keep Austin for the 2010 season. Not too shabby. Ray Rice was drafted in the 4th round last year, so he's being kept by his owner for a 2nd round pick this year - also great value. No player with a KN less than or equal to 0 can be kept, hence no players from the previous years 1st or 2nd round being kept. It helps to keep studs in the draft pool every year and to keep the draft fun!

I would do the deal. You'll be stacked at WR, and can take all kinds of flyers at RB, and only need to hit on one.

And if a WR falls to you in the draft that should be off the board, you can add him for trade potential.

Good luck!

He's not able to be kept. No one drafted in the first 2 rounds may be kept for the following season. He was drafted in the 1st round last year, therefore he can't be kept this year. When I'm talking about him, I'm talking about drafting him at the 1.01.

With your scoring system being what it is I think I'd be inclined to take the deal as well, but I'd try to test the owner first. Have you tried to counter offer on the verbal deal you have? If that owner really wants chCJ he may be willing to give up a little more. Let's face it the first offer you get isnt usually the best.

I would pass on the deal considering your leagues keeper rules and the players that will be available at the 1.01...

We've been talking about a deal like this for awhile and it's gotten to this point. I think I'm happy with doing the deal seeing that I could still get a RB like Gore/Turner/SJax at the 1.08. If this were dynasty, I'd be scoffing at this offer.

I'd pass on the deal given your existing WR depth and lack of RBs.
If you can't leave at least a 20% tip, you can't afford to eat out.
