Rookie Safeties... who's your 3rd guy? *POLL*

As talented as the Safeties were, in this draft class, I HATED almost all of the landing spots. And some just don't make any sense...

I liked Justin Evans, Marcus Maye, Josh Jones, & Obi as SS prospects, but they all landed in spots where the clearest path to playing time will have to be at FS or maybe even slot corner.

I took a shot on Maye in one league because I think he will be an every down player by mid season, albeit at FS instead of SS.

I do think Maye & Adams will share duties close to the LOS, so hopefully he won't be playing the deep centerfield role that a guy like Hooker will be.

I was also frustrated with a few of the landing spots. However, I like Josh Jones the most long-term. Everything I've read suggests GB won't be able to afford Burnett and he'll leave after '17.

If I had to pick a guy I think could play right away? I'd probably roll with Maye too.

It's mostly a WW position but any potential box safety is worth a look.

No point in a new thread since no one would be interested, so I'll piggy back off this one

Cut one:
Darian Stewart
TJ Green (Geathers has some serious neck issues)

I would personally keep Stewart, because TJ Green is a legitimately bad player. Bad enough to keep himself off the field. At least Stewart will get snaps

Yeah I read he was pretty bad.

You're a Colts fan right? Either way thanks bud.

Haha either that or I'm Donte's mama. Yup, I'm a diehard Colts fan! We actually had a really good 2016 draft but TJ was one of 2 picks that I hated (the other being Morrison, in the 4th)

Thanks.

I'll be picking up three UDFAs with the upcoming release of Green. I'm going Blair Brown, Deashon Hall and maybe an offensive player. Maybe Yancey or D Henderson.

No offense to anyone here, but I don't have Peppers nor Adams as my top safety in this class.

Obiwan has the highest ceiling of any safety prospect I've ever graded. His metrics/production scores are even higher than Eric Berry's. He's pushing Reggie Nelson aside with ease. He may even be the MIKE that the Raiders have been looking for. He's a freak. Baller.

I doubted you last year with Jatavis, and you proved everyone wrong. This is just as much of a hot take and I am still gonna doubt you. But I'll admit I love Obi as a prospect! And I stated on here a couple months ago, he looks more like a LB than a DB. We shall see...

I like Budda Baker for immediate impact, but Josh Jones for long term value.

Sell us more on Obi! Why is he more than just an athletic freak? Why should I buy a guy who's going to end up at FS? Legit questions, I'd love to be convinced either way!

Watch his tape on Draft Breakdown, you'll be impressed; the dude is a baller. Reminds me of Lavonte David. Struggles in coverage but he's very instinctive as a hunter of ballcarriers. Quick to lock in and wrap up.

I think Reggie Nelson made a positive impact and he has a skill set that they need so I don't see him losing his role this season as the deeper safety, but I think Obi could still have a big role as their third safety playing big nickel/dime and perhaps even some snaps at LB. This type of role could easily be a 65-70% role with a lot of time in the box, which could make him a very productive IDP. This is of course dependent on him progressing quickly mentally and being ready for that much playing time...

Long term I don't think anyone needs to be afraid that Obi will be stuck working the deep zone. If he becomes a starter he's going to get his fair share of snaps in the box, and on the line blitzing or lined up against TEs, that's a big part of his skill set and defensive coordinators typically like the role to follow the player, not the other way around. I'm sure that if Obi and Joseph wound up as starters they would not play them in old school FS/SS roles, it would be more of a dynamic and multiple way of employing their safeties, and probably bringing in a third safety in sub-packages that has more typical centerfield safety skills so they could move both Obi and Joseph closer to the box.

I'm with that.

GB already tried using Burnett in that Woodson type role last year....JJ is a better fit for that blitz/tackle/cover hybrid position Capers wants to run. And there is a lot of talk up here about Burnett being gone after this year.....yes too expensive and getting a bit long in the tooth.
