Waooow hadn't been on the Forum in a while and didn't realize this thread took a life of it's own!!
After reading all the inputs, I do agree that scoring adjustment seems like the right way to address this issue.
Thanks for explaining the downside of this quite clearly.

Tonite i'm exactly thinking the same.
I've seen Chandler going from a 4-3 DE postion to 3-4 OLB and it seems that here we go again for the return at the former position...
Liuget has been moved from 3-4 DE to 4-3 DT
Brockers from NT to 3-4 DE...
I had Taco, Barnett, Gholston, Fowler at DE and Brockers, Jernigan at DT. Now i've 5 DE and 1 DT...And i could have 6 with Chandler with less LB since the A.Williamson trade.
For me it shouldn't be anymore DT/DE/LB but Edge/DL/LB now. The DE/OLB could be used in the three designations for consequence and let us the choice instead of constantly trade, draft, cut, waive etc...As much go in the shortest way.
In waiting i'm totally avoiding a DT with 3-4 DE ability...or a DE too heavy who could be moved inside...or a DE with too much coverage abilities and who could be moved as an OLB ^^
If MFL does it, it's the first thing i will claim in my dynasty offseason change rules. But something has to be changed. There is a reason all those guys change every year. Because of scheme changed and because they are polyvalent. And for some of them they are used differentely during the same season. It's even more than an evidence so. Let them in a unique designation is insane for me and totally opposite to what is the NFL right now. NFL has changed quickly, so should do the fantasy.

I think a better idea is to balance scoring so a good edge lb can be a lb1. In my one league for instance where Chandler Jones was the top lb last year while most lb1s were off ball guys they are somewhat capped by tackle numbers and to really have a game changing dominant season you need sacks. This makes a balance between safer off ball guys and higher upside rush lbs

This is what we did. QB hits, Tackle for Loss etc...Chandler finished #10 with 202 points. So a guy with 50+ tackles and 15+ sacks becomes great. He made 34 QB hits last year = 68 points. 28 TFL = 28 points. Almost half of his scoring. In my argues, one of the most important point is the fact it changes every year. If you know he'll stay LB, you can count on him. No problem. But if you trade another LB and he moves himself at DE, the position is suddenly empty. But i know that wherever he is on the field, he will be now very valuable with this scoring. New rules made OLB better in LB designation equaling the tackles machines. For DE, guys who don't get to the sack but are regular hard worker, it closes the gap too. Just a management frustration of rosters.

I'm doing a new IDP startup sal cap league, and I'm using the PFF position designations of DI, EDR, and LB.
Of course, MFL is the only site that can handle a league of my complexity, and they don't use those positions. So I am manually changing player positions so that DI = DT, EDR = DE, and LB = LB.
Here's the list of players I've changed so far. Still need to figure out and move the incoming rookies.

I think it's time to resurrect this thread! I finished my league's first season doing DI / EDR / LB positions (manually changed in the MFL database by me, see the post above for the initial position changes I entered), and it went GREAT!
I'm converting my second IDP league to these positions next year, and am going to propose to the 3rd IDP league I commish that we do the same for the 2020 season. It just makes so much sense to have players grouped together by their actual on-field responsibilities rather than antiquated designations. I'm already seeing the concern about JPP being designated as a LB by MFL next year because the Bucs hired Todd Bowles as their DC, and he runs a 3-4 base. If you use DI / EDR / Off-ball LB positions, JPP was an Edge last year and he'll still be an Edge next year. No worries!

To be honest --- I like the back and forth game. Buy low when they're LBs and sell high when they're DEs. Just gotta try to be a few steps ahead.
