Trade from end of last season

This is the place for team advice - should I make this trade, should I draft that player, etc.

Trade from end of last season

Postby Cojo 2020 » Sun Apr 09, 2017 7:50 pm

I don't think I ever discussed this trade that I made during my playoff push last season with you all, but I would love to hear you thoughts after the fact. Sadly, I came up one win short of making the playoffs, despite my trade. But I also think it works for me moving forward.

I received: Julio Jones and Andy Dalton.

I gave up: Sammy Watkins, Marquise Lee, Jarvis Landry, Joe Flacco, and Zach Zenner.

My concern was to solidify my WR situation. I had many good/great WRs, but the roller coaster of Hopkins and Thomas last year was frustrating when I had to decide who to pair with Beckham and Evans every week. Flacco was a backup for me most weeks, and seemed fairly even with Dalton, except that Dalton was throwing to A.J. Green.

Watkins constant injuries were a concern, and Lee and Landry were buried on my practice squad anyway. Zenner was a throw in, so I didn't have to toss in a draft pick.

In essence, I gave up no starters to get Jones, which I think is a big win.

Good trade in my opinion. Now you just have to upgrade at RB and you should be just fine.

Good lord that WR stable is just absolutely disgusting! (In a good way lol)

I'm lukewarm on Sammy and I'm a huge Jarvis fan, however in your case I love the trade for you. If neither of them was ever sniffing your starting lineup and you have DT/Nuk/Diggs on your bench even AFTER giving them up, you're more than ok.

How did you miss the playoffs with a core of Stafford Wilson Howard Evans Odell and Julio?

Good question...some bad luck at my RB2 and I didn't get Julio until week 13, our last week.

If I recall, I went several weeks where I had Peterson, Martin, Simms, Bernard and Rawls out...and that was when bye weeks hit my QBs and WRs. Plus, Thomas and Hopkins were so inconsistent, and I could never seem to pick right as to which one to start at WR3 with Evans and Beckham. Getting Julio solved that problem really quickly!
